Hello, I've just joined with NCN and would like to share a little of
myself. I've been interested in sprituality for many years now
(although very undisciplined) and a newly aquired friend gave me a
copy of CP to read. I enjoyed it very much and also the sequel. My
friend and I would like to start a discussion group in our area and
had even discussed the possibility before I got the internet and
discovered the CP chat room, talk about coincidence! Anyway, I'm in a
rut with my life right now as I would very much like to change
direction in my life. I am 34 with virtually no job skills as I have
stayed home to care for my children. Now that they are older I would
like to try something different. I'm currently self employed cleaning
houses and not being happy. Like I said I'm in a rut because I've
fantasized about so many different occupations that I've become
confused about what I truly need and want. I do know that I would like
to be my own boss. But right now I need to emerse myself in following
and living CP to uncover my intuition which is very blocked. I am
not totally unhappy as I have had many good times but I'm very much in
a limbo. Aside from that I enjoy hiking, swimming,skiing, also I am a

around me settling for a job they don't like because of economic
constraints, giving up on their dreams, and letting their lives get
taken over by the monotony of working and watching T.V. I can't stand
the idea of living life that passively. I want to be interactive in
life - living it, loving it. My worst nightmare is to feel like I
have nothing to offer in life, to quit thinking and learning. I have
come up against many obstacles since I have graduated (eg: economic
problems, lack of nursing jobs) but they haven't made me feel so
helpless that I have given up on my utopia. Most important in not
losing my utopia is the presence of a support system (my buddy
network). With these people in my life I feel like I can do anything,
and each one has their own strengths and areas of expertise that I can
access when needed. Second in importance is always having my
capacities recognized and utilized. Nothing can drain a person's
strength more as not having their individuality appreciated. One of
the concepts that I have had increased interest in in the past year
and a half or so is community development and the inclusive idea of
"building on capacities" This philosophy is based on the foundation
that if you focus on the negatives or weaknesses (what they call needs
assessment in nursing and health care) that people will see those
things instead of the positives and get drawn into a continual
downward spiral of needs and negativity. For example, in a community
it might be seen that Bob is an alcoholic and that money is needed for
his rehabilitation. He might be rehabilitated only to go back into
the community and return to alcoholism. Instead if it was noticed
that Bob had fine carpentry skills (within the building on capacities
model) and someone else asked him to build a garage for them in return
for teaching his kid music lessons then those two people would feel
good about doing something they like and doing it well rather than
seeing themselves as the town alcoholic, or perhaps the town high
school drop-out. Anyways, I'm realizing that this is getting very
lengthy (and my boyfriend is saying I'm getting more into on-line
publishing than writing a short bio) so I'll curb the ol' enthusiasm
and explanations for now. I'm really interested in knowing if anyone
has similar interests (health care related or not) so please drop me a
line. In the meantime I am going to continue building on my
capacities. I am applying for a holistic health practitioner program
(doing herbology, acupressure, therapeutic touch etc.) for the fall
and hope to keep on learning and living better.
