PEACE OUTPOST INITIATION
We had an initiation ceremony on the 23rd of the peace pole that Max Sandor
constructed. It changed its name along the way to the "New Civilization

NEW CIVILIZATION FOUNDATION CEREMONY
Tomorrow, January 28th at 12:17 Pacific Standard Time there will be an
ceremony celebrating the "official" coming into existence of the New
Civilization Foundation. The time was chosen amongst some of the members of
the foundation workgroup. It is the first day of the Chinese "Year of the
Tiger", Neptune enters Aquarius, it is a great day to start new things
according to the Mayan Calendar. So, hey, why not, let's intend the
foundation into more tangible existence at that time. There will be a
ceremony at my house in the San Fernando Valley, California at that time.

SERVER CHANGE
The newciv.org server has now moved onto the T1 line in Marina del Rey.
This means it should operate a good deal faster. The websites that were on
the server have moved to another, also faster, server. Which, again, means
that they should be more available.
The NCN home page can now be found at http://www.newciv.org/ as well as
through any of the old addresses, which should all end up in the same place
now.
There were quite a few technicalities involved in the change, so there
might still be a few things that aren't operational yet. Let me know if you
find something that doesn't work.

DONATIONS
Thank you very much to those of you who have sent in donations towards the
operation of the servers. It is very much appreciated. More is needed,
however, so keep them coming. The suggestion is $20 or more. In
appreciation for that you will get access to a few more services, like the
ability to have a simple home page on the servers, and an e-mail alias, if
you want that.
There are a few more things that need to be in place to allow you to set
this up, and these will materialize shortly. So, be patient, we'll get back
to you soon.

PLANNED IMPROVEMENTS
I'm working on a number of improvements to the online environment and the
setup on the servers, to better support what we need. For example:
I'm updating the database system that the member directory is based on. It
is right now a fairly homegrown system, and it is beginning to crack at the
seams a bit with this many members. For example, the searches in the
member directory don't always come out, because they're taking too long and
the server gives up. I'm updating it to a more solid database system that
can handle many more members.
I'm working on new chat room software that will be integrated into some of
the pages so that one can see who's currently there looking at the same
page at the same time, and interact with them. There will be a "Front
Lobby" chat room for those who just drop by and look at the pages, a
"Member Lounge" chat room for those who have logged in and who are members,
and possibly more rooms for special purposes.
I'm setting up the facilities to create simple webpages by filling in forms
and choosing what graphics one wants, and have the page appear instantly.
