NCN: Serious Work

The New Civilization Network is meant to be many things. A collection of
nice virtual places to hang out, a directory of people in might be useful
to connect with, an inspiring message to the world.

What I had hoped there would be more of would be small groups of people
getting together for more "serious" and focused projects. I mean, something
that goes beyond stimulating discussion. Projects that set aims, members
that work on accomplishing them, and who tell us how they're progressing.

Looking at the tremendous amount of accummulated talent and expertise and
good will in NCN I have no doubt that we can accomplish tremendous things.
But I also feel that there are many opportunities for co-creation that
aren't being tapped.

Many of you are already doing great things in your lives and you're already
part of ambitious projects and activities. Many of you might be so busy
with that that you don't have time to look for new connections.

However, my questions here are:

- how can NCN better support what you're already doing?
- what kind of format would best facilitate that you find people to work
with here, and that you actually get something done?
- what are you looking for in terms of group collaboration that you don't
already have?

I have learned along the way that things don't really happen just by
putting some nice people together and having nice general discussions.
Things happen when somebody imagines something specific that needs doing,
when it is presented with enough clarity and specificity so that others can
decide how they fit in, and when somebody puts a lot of energy into
carrying out the intentions and facilitating the process.

I would like to see NCN being the forum for proposing things that need
doing, for finding collaborators, and for facilitating the process of doing
something together.

Specific environments, mailing lists, chat rooms, webpages, etc, can be
created for a specific focus. It just has to start with somebody putting
forward what they want to do and we'll go from there.

One group in NCN that has been very active and prolific in the last months
has been the New Civilization Foundation working group. It has a mailing
list which you can join my sending a message to listserv@newciv.org with
the message 'subscribe ncnculture-L'. It has in part developed a mission
statement and a set of very ambitious strategies for coordinating large
scale projects towards a new civilization. See the webpage with the working
documents at:

http://www.newciv.org/ncn/ncf/ncf01.html

But there are lots of things to do. I would be happy to see this present
mailing list being a forum for proposing projects and for reporting your
progress and experiences in your group projects. Send me your proposals or
progress reports and I'll collect them and send them out here once in a
while.

What do you want to do, what are you already doing, what do you need?
