"The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated."
Mark Twain
"This breaking news just in -- Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead!"
Chevy Chase, Weekend Update
"I'm not dead!"
Body, Monty Python's "Search for the Holy Grail".
I'm sensing a trend.
First it was King Fahd. UPI and some blogs I visit had been saying that the King had died, and that it was being kept secret, as the power struggle went on behind the scenes. Reuters was reporting him as "stable" which a friend and I had a chuckle about, because well, one could be dead AND stable.
Now news reports are that the King's health is improving.
Then, another blog I read was reporting the probable death of the socialist leader of Venezuala, Chavez. This was rumoured because a speech he was supposed to give was abruptly canceled and people were starting to gather in the thousands in a square in Caracas.
Well, Chavez put an end to those nasty rumours by appearing on Tee Vee, but rumours still persist that there may have been a coup attempt, an assasination attempt, or an attempt by Chavez to flush out the "disloyal" ones who surround him.
King Fahd on the other hand, has still not been seen in public, but who knows?
My theory? Half baked as it may be? Remember Newsweek lied, people died? I think the main stream media is feeding certain rumours to certain blogs, to lighten the critisism on themselves for their shoddy work of late. "Yeah we make mistakes, but just look at those pajama people (ie, bloggers), They're even worse than us!"
So, who knows what to believe? Not me. (backpeddles away...).
