In Her Green Depths
The waltz of kelp to shore reels like a beckoning dance.
“Come to me and ride my rushing tides and my windblown waves”,
I could almost hear her whisper.
In her green depths the surging water presses in constant sighs,
Leaving all bare in one place and all crowded in another.
In turns, constantly giving and taking.
Leaving sparse emptiness in one sway
And gathering riches in another.
Seals and otters in rolling affinity become the sea
And the sea embraces them and cradles their round, smooth bodies.
They laugh at me, all clumsy and angular and unfit to join their dance.
If I do join them in the cold churning water
I cannot decide if its pity or hilarity that flashes in those soulful eyes.
As they turn to show me how amazing they are,
Waving a flipper here and a tail there while I try not to sink.
How awkward and unfit for this realm I am!
Yet, I cannot resist.
I laugh back.
