"I must not fear.

Fear is the mind-killer.

Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

I will face my fear.

I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

And when ...

it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.

Only I will remain."

---Frank Herbert, Dune - Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear

I just re-read Dune, completed it 10 minutes before reading this. I must have read it a hundred times, each time I learn something more.........

of the unknown is a fear of diversity.

it is an interesting enterprise to compare "Dune" to "Star Wars", especially the female roles. Nice post!

Dune is a marvellous map/guide/perspective on all that is happening now (and any time, upwards, downwards, inwards, outwards, and reverse vector-wards). It basically spells out the whole game-plan, and who is up to what. And of course, the litany against Fear is a marvellous tonic in the context of those who are anxious to spread fear. As usual, you are a {link:http://www.afribeat.com/cont_perfecttiming.html|brother with perfect timing}, Max. :-)

I'm dune foor! Perhaps its worth a second look for me. I wasn't sure what I was looking at the first time. As soon as I finish the Fresco. Or maybe together.

25 Sep 2003 @ 07:18 by mx @4.62.123.106 : Kim: ah, you are here (and now) ;-)
from the note on your {link:http://www.newciv.org/nl/newslog.php/_v147|BLOG} I thought you vanished for a while ;-) glad to hear from you. Love what you linked to. Yes, clocks *are* the token of modern day enslavery.. A good time to remember the old quote from JD Flora: "clocks came and time left, writing came and memory left, tv came and now few have the time to read,". I wonder what he would say about the BLOG ;-)
All the best to you, wherever you are now, Kim !!

I knew him slightly when I was a student in Seattle. His son and I became buddies for a few months before I moved away. Frank Herbert was a stocky man with brown/auburn hair, a full reddish beard, and the bluest penetrating eyes this side of Paul Newman.

His house was full of books. Every room had floor to ceiling bookshelves, including the hallways.
