Theme of the week seems to be what exactly is in BETWEEN the Odu.. Ed wrote about in LA, I was experimenting here in Nice/France.

In workshops I compare a polarity with a battery but I don't talk about much what is in the soup within the battery, just about the poles themselves.

here is a basic: basic technical explication. Ignore the silly first sentence.. a battery IS a capacitor, of course..

There are now several ways to access directly the was is IN BETWEEN the poles:..

But we can also take any subtree from the complete star tetrahedron and construct a triad. For the previous examle (the 'Stranizza' configuration), we could create an Odi-Iwori polarity and infuse Otura in the center. There is a very destructive force hidden in there, but if Girapoli is activated, it shouldn't come to fruition. In all of this I assume that nobody can do this without in the first place who doesn't have already the ability of switching it off again.. whatever may arrive..

PS: the picture shows a 'Steiner' Tetra that approximates a visulation of forces acting on a Tetra (or parts thereof)

An odu only has poles if one pries it apart, at which point it is no longer a functioning odu!

Basically an odu is two things welded together. The things which are welded together are the prime qualities which make and shape both the physical universe and also Beings. These prime qualities are things like "solidity" or "location" or "affinity" or "survival", real basic stuff like that. On a Being, an odu is sometimes called an "actual goal" or "actual GPM goal". So a sample "actual goal" using the primes I mentioned above might be "to solidify affinity" (odi-otura in Ifa terms).

What happened is that I was curious about exactly HOW two prime qualities get welded together. So I went away, into my somewhere which is nowhere, where I "meditate" so to speak. In this noplace I can see anything I want to see. And see exactly how it is put together. So I did, and what I saw about odu is that it is formed by placing nothingness (oyeku in Ifa) between the two primes.

Nothingness is the end result of perfect duplication (as-isness). Stated the other direction, perfect duplication results in vanishment (this is the correct sequence to produce good results in a mind). What is vanished in this case is any DIFFERENCE between the two prime qualities, this makes them become ONE (this is running the other direction, from nothingness toward differences). And if they are two different qualities, this produces a persisting lie, one which has the capability to hang around for trillions of years.

The exact sequence of odu placement seems to be: 1) place the first prime quality, 2) place the second immediately, with oyeku as the "flux" allowing them to weld together. Because the first came prior, it will have a slight "seniority" to the second, and tend to act on it as the two become one. The first acts as a DOINGNESS, the second as a HAVINGNESS. Traditional sources call these male and female respectively.

Because odu are created by an action which is the reverse of what is good for a Being, odu are potentially dangerous to Beings. They have the capability to seriously collapse a person, as was discovered to their dismay by certain researchers at a place called Saint Hill back in the early 1960s. Anyone "messing around" with odu need protection, and the only protection of which I know for the average, or even above average, person is initiation into Ifa as an Ifa priest.

I finally know WHY they are so dangerous. It is simply that they are formed "widdershins" as it were, from oyeku to ofun, which is the reverse of the direction which is good for Beings.

It is not clear for me, what your explanation has to do with the traditional source (male and female aspects of an odu). Perhaps some explantions about of significance of olodu, obalodu and omolodu would help to understand your viewpoint.

I do not agree that only an initiation as IFA Priest, can be assumed as the only way to protect a person "meessing around". As far in my limited knowledge and practical experience on such issues, still as IFA priest, a person need to take more care about ODU protection, due as IFA Priest you are also exposed to the effects of ODU casted for the clients during divination . It is worth to notice that in the traditional IFA tradition, the priest know what ebbos must be done for himself, in accordance what odus have been casted on the tray (opon -fa), in order to protect him of the effect of the odus casted.

I agree, IFA is fun as long the things are working properly...but in the reverse direction IFA kills (as well said in the lukumi tradition)

I'd liketo add that I determine the ebo(s) for myself after the divination, not by standard application of a recipe.
