Next to the coffin of grandgranddaddy his grandgrandchildren didn't forget to take care of business, serious business, like communication (foto made last Monday at the Cemitério de Congonhas, Brazil). The show must go on and the nextnext generation grows up with lullabies from Whitesnake (see [link] , the kid to the left 14 months ago).

At 'my' times, lullabies like Hänschen klein. (see [link] ) were the standard but now it's granddaddy duty singing it without falling asleep myself.

The Wikipedia entry makes me wonder, though, because it presents a certain version as 'widely' accepted which has a different ending than I remember. It's also the fact that I remember the ENTIRE song - it must have been very much engraved in my little brain.

I wonder to what extend lullabies influence the development of mind, soul, and spirit, and am curious to read some feedback on this.

Let's look at what changed in the last 50 years:

first the translation as found on Wikipedia..

(A complete text and an English version is at [link] , not simply a translation but rephrased as a song to sing)

Wikipedia:
Little Hans went alone
Right into the wide world.
Looking great with stick and hat
He was in good spirits.
But his mother cried so much,
For she no longer had little Hans.
Such, the child changes its mind,
Turning back home, swiftly.

As I remember it from 50 years ago, the last 2 lines were:
Wünsch dir Glück! Sagt ihr Blick,
Kehr' nur bald zurück!

which would be
"Her (the mother's) eyes said: (I) wish you good luck!
Come back soon!"

that's quite a different message, methinks...

Paraphrases are generally better than word by word translations (If one can really call them that) because the 'jist' is what is aimed at and that requires understanding. Hochma, Bina, Daat. Bina, translated 'understanding,' really means the ability to divide - to distinguish between this and that...

Thanks for this bit of inspiration, mx, would be a fine study for a 'paper.'

I am sure that as the malleable 'child' is 'developed' these early 'imprints' assuredly have their impact. Then there are the frequencies of the melodies, timbre, mood, environment - all affecting the little piece of MEST bot clay. The GE, of course, would find it all soothing I'm sure till...

He/She got audited and or joburged and found out that these melodies were some secret code and that he/she was in reality a sleeper agent for a foreign enemy! Then the poop would hit the fan!

17 Jul 2008 @ 20:17 by mx @189.68.213.32 : reprogramming the child programme(r)s
may be it's time to find some other rhymes to chant along, inserting the Nag Hammadi Codex, Kybalion, Ibn Arabi or some stuff like that :-)

I find it surprising that nobody seemed to complain yet... but then, everybody agrees that one needs to cut off a baby rapidly after birth, hold it upside down, and beat it on the back repeatedly..

17 Jul 2008 @ 22:01 by Dario @83.103.75.194 : rhythm
on my myspace I never try to record something like lullaby, but it'd be a good Idea for the next song...

a lullaby without words...

in this way you can program a child or a guy even a man, with the power of the rhythm of the universe.

RondaCircle has trying to go to this direction...(make some propaganda of my DrumCircle) http://drumcircle.meetup.com/316/

:-)

if someone wants to collaborate, let me(us) know...

experiment and research!!!

17 Jul 2008 @ 22:35 by mx @189.68.213.32 : kid's rhythms
Anthony (the kid on the left) ever since he was 6 or so months old kind of dances to certain rhythms, especially medium-slow Blues. When I change the rhythm, either the backing drums themselves, or even during playing guitar without backing, he immediately stops dancing and only resumes it when the rhythm is back again to what he likes. Again, nearly instantanously . Don't know (yet) if that's an archetypal pattern or if its the same for all/most kids.

18 Jul 2008 @ 03:02 by Everlight @98.221.247.62 : 'enthusiam' - en theos...
"The Greeks bequeathed to us one of the most beautiful words in our language - the word ‘enthusiasm’ - en theos - a god within. The grandeur of human actions is measured by the inspiration from which they spring. Happy is he who bears a god within, and who obeys it.” - Louis Pasteur

18 Jul 2008 @ 15:02 by fill-void @84.73.101.177 : Just associations
Reminds me the report of the mother of my daughter - that I went to bed with her to tell her for the 242th time the story of father rabbit and baby rabbit to get her asleep - quarter of an hour later she, hardly up to walking and talking, crawled down the stairs and reported execution to the mother: Okay, daddy asleep.

I know two endings of Hänschen klein, but not the one which is reported as wide-spread by the Wiki - one is the "come back soon" of mother's eyes, the other is a "never comes back again" descriptive type. This latter is more fragmentary for me - I just remember the "kehrt nie mehr zurück", not the before-context to it - but this is the version I would have recalled alone if not aided by your presentation.

The stories my daughter loved most where the adventures of the little nothing in coming to something which I invented, but nor she nor I did fell asleep by them ... so not very serving as lullaby, despite started with this idea, lol!

19 Jul 2008 @ 17:47 by vaxen : to theo
tos theos, ton theon as in "ton theon ouranon." Theos stands alone without the 'Tos.' Very nice analogy Everlight. "Eigo Eimi Kai Alpha Kai To Omega." Omega point? Have we reached it? Ah... comes to mind this: Entheogens. En + Theo +Gen as in 'Gen-esis.' ;) Lots of others, too, come to mind... Have a great day Everlight.
