I see a bit of mischieviousness in those green eyes of hers. Look out world. 1 Aug 2003 @ 10:21 by scotty : Big sigh ! she's lovely! I'm a wee bit of an animal lover myself ! Cats just can't resist sinking their claws into a rough surface can they - which is why a scratching post could be the salvation of your household goods- and maybe even of the cat eh ! Anyway make sure that the post is tall enough for the cat to reach up as he scratches let him have a good stretch while hes at it !. It's got to be absolutely stable. If it rocks, he'll lose his confidence and not use it anymore. Whatever kind of post you choose, don't get rid of it when it starts looking tatty. If it looks tatty, that's because he's using it and it has his scent- and hopefully hell be the only one able to smell it eh ! LOL! Try putting the post in the middle of wherever the action is - like right next to the sofa, if theres enough room, or wherever it is that your cat's been doing his scratching- cos this means the cat likes this space. Once he starts using it you can move it -a few inches at a time- a wee bit further away or at least far enough until youre not tripping over it all the time ! Remove the odor from where he was already scratching - this is important because -one of the reasons of scratching is to deposit a familiar scent; it's your cat's way of marking his territory. Removing his scent may help prevent him from scratching there in the future. (fingers crossed !) What you can also try doing is apply citrus smelling odors they hate oranges and lemons n stuff like that - maybe you can hide some dried orange peel under a cushion or rub some scented oil into the furniture. I think there exists some kind of repellent too but I dont know if they work all that well . Anyway good luck the cat too ! (shes very lovely!) 1 Aug 2003 @ 11:54 by invictus : That's a great picture... Kinda made my day : ) . Welcome to the logs! 1 Aug 2003 @ 14:34 by John B. Free @66.248.78.196 : Blessed Be-come Avivi! Yep, a Beauty! I feel that cats add so much to a life! I welcome their sensitivity and freedom to explore! You are both blessed! JBF 9 Aug 2003 @ 01:47 by Gail @67.84.98.96 : Be kind to animals - birds too Aviva is very delicate and sweet looking. Enjoy! I'm glad to hear that spaying and neutering is being urged, but I want to add the importance of keeping cats indoors. Cats are a real menace to song birds and other urban and suburban wildlife. ...and cats are happy inside as long as they have room to roam and pounce.
