Loving Advice To My Arab Relatives by Elan Neev17 comments

[My friend Elan Neev writes the following from Israel-BIK]

Commonsense formula for better life & peace (a message from the heart & mind of a peacemaker & lover of humanity):

I think we need to look at the facts before we blame (advice for my Arab brothers & sisters), and also before we take responsibility & assume guilt (for my own Jewish brothers & sisters infected with the psychosis of self-blame & Jewish guilt). Blood shed is painful & knows no border & no discrimination of nation, race or religion. And the family of fallen soldiers grieve as much as families of civilians.

Next Steps in Arab-Israeli Peacemaking
Jerusalem Viewpoints
No. 543 5 Sivan 5766 / 1 June 2006

* The U.S. military victory in Iraq did at first create a more congenial atmosphere among Palestinians for peace with Israel. However, the present situation in Iraq, as well as Iran and Muslim fundamentalism in general, have caused matters to move in the opposite direction. The Palestinians are further away from a spirit of reconciliation and compromise than ever before. Terrorists everywhere are feeling emboldened by what they see, at least for now, as an American failure.  More >

The path to our destruction
By Caroline B. Glick

Caroline Glick writes about the defiant, irrational and immoral refusal of Western
political, cultural and media elites to acknowledge the threat that
internal and external jihadist forces manifest to the very notion of
human freedom. They thereby make it impossible for their societies to take
measures to protect themselves

 Hamas Must Be Stopped4 comments

Binyamin Netanyahu provides a nice summary of the history of Jihad, the present World War and the possible stakes for Israel and Western Civilization if appeasers win in the next Israeli election.

Netanyahu at Jerusalem Conference: Hamas Must be Stopped
By Hillel Fendel - Arutz Sheva-March 21, 2006

PM candidate Binyamin Netanyahu opened Tuesday's session of the Jerusalem Conference with a review of Islam's attempts to conquer the world - which the Hamas takeover of the PA is a main feature.

Netanyahu said that Islam tried, upon its founding, to conquer Christian Europe, but failed and w! as pushed back to Northern Africa. Another attempt hundreds of years later was similarly repelled. "For the last few centuries," Netanyahu continued, "we thought that religious wars were over - but suddenly, now, we see a third attempt by Islam. In 1979, two seminal events occurred, both of which continue to have a strong effect even now. One is the victory by Islamic mujaheedin in Afghanistan over Soviet forces, leading to the formation of Al-Qaeda, and then, shortly afterwards, the formation of the terrorist Islamic Republic of Iran. Some thought then that the Ayatollahs of Iran would become more moderate, but of course this did not happen, and now Iran's nuclear program and missiles threaten the entire world."

"Since then, more recently, two more important events have happened. One is the formation of another fundamentalist Islamic republic, in Afghanistan, with the Taliban, leading to 9/11 - if they had had nuclear weapons, New York and Washington would not be aroun! d any more - and another event that occurred with Israel's help: the formation of a Hamas regime in the Palestinian Authority. The Hamas entity is a daughter state of Iran, with the same policies, and talks openly of its goal of destroying Israel, using its code words of 'Right of Return' and 'continued resistance' - namely, terrorism. Israel is their first stop on the road to world conquest.  More >

From SupportDenmark.com:

"On the 30th of September 2005 the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten published 12 cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed. Mohammedans raised a storm of protest and two artists went into hiding after receiving death threats. Islamic organisations demanded an apology from the Danish government and the incident turned into a world-wide diplomatic issue. The OIC (the Organisation of the Islamic Conference), the Council of Europe and the UN all criticised the government of Denmark for not taking measures against the newspaper Jyllands-Posten. The Danish prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen defended the freedom of the press and free speech and stated that any measures, if appropriate, could not be taken by the government but only by a court of law. Meanwhile in Islamic countries Danish flags are burned and Danish products are taken off the shelves. Several countries have withdrawn their ambassadors from Denmark and armed men attacked the office of the EU in the Gaza strip."

 The Dynamics of Insult10 comments
picture4 Feb 2006 @ 05:33
[This section from my book, Dare to Inquire, seems relevant to the Danish Mohammed Cartoon controversy. By the way, Muslims ought to be free to express their opinion of disdain if they feel insulted. Or to not buy Danish cheese, etc. When they begin to threaten other people's property and lives then they ought to know that civilized people will oppose them. ]

The Dynamics of Insult

Richard Bandler and John Grinder, the originators of “Neuro-Linguistic Programming” (which they derived, in part, from their study of General Semantics) wrote: “The meaning of your communication is the response that you get. If you can notice that you are not getting what you want, change what you’re doing.”

This way of stating a potentially useful point leads to some problems relevant to issues of extensional (factually-oriented) communicating and responsibility. If people feel insulted by what I say they can claim, according to the statement above, that their feeling of insult ‘is’ the ‘meaning’ of my communication, for
which I––the speaker––am totally responsible.

This is indeed what fundamentalist Muslims (unfortunately not just a vocal minority in the Muslim world) claimed about novelist Salman Rushdie and his book, The Satanic Verses (and now, in Feb. 2006, claim about the Danish "Mohammed Cartoons").  More >
