 An Invitation...0 comments

Imagine a kitchen table, round. Pots of coffee and tea and hot chocolate sit steaming on the table next to some big mugs. You stand at the doorway, looking in. Someone rises from the table, smiles and beckons to you. You can smell cinammon buns baking in the oven, and the chairs look comfortable.

Will you enter? Accept the invitation to stay awhile? If so, a conversation can begin, or continue. You can pick up the threads that are weaving a new cultural fabric, adding in your own, developing the pattern further. Or perhaps you'll just sit quietly for now, noticing how the pattern forms and changes, how the contrasts add complexity and depth.
If you decide to join in, here are some threads you might pick up:

- Share! your own story about becoming a Cultural Creative.  More >

okay

Okay we can figure out the logistics
and math and resources to get a probe
to orbit Mars and war and all that yet
a problem as simple? as feeding the whole
world still illudes not to mention proper health
care but ? is it because we won't share or care
or trade or what? What is it about making sure
that everybody at least gets a good breakfast?
Okay I know thats about 7 billion breakfasts
but even Woodstock fed 1/2 million on a couple
hours notice. Is it the money then or what?
The lack of good will? Is it to complex to manange?
To complex to figure out? What?
Isn't it important enough... hmmmm maybe thats it
who cares or no ones get paid to make sure everyones
had a good breakfast or maybe no asks but surely thats
not that hard....
So hey did you have a good breakfast there chum?

An introduction to the science and art of perception management.

The phrase "perception management" is filtering into common use as a synonym for "persuasion." Public relations firms now offer "perception management" as one of their services. Similarly, public officials who are being accused of shading the truth are now frequently charged with engaging in "perception management" when disseminating information to media or to the general public.

Although perception management operations are typically carried out within the international arena between governments, and between governments and citizens, use of perception management techniques have become part of mainstream information management systems in many ways that do not concern military campaigns or government relations with citizenry. Businesses may even contract with other businesses to conduct perception management for them, or they may conduct it in-house with their public relations staff.

  • Perception management is a term originated by the U. S. military. The U. S. Department of Defense (DOD) gives this definition:

Actions to convey and/or deny selected information and indicators to foreign audiences to influence their emotions, motives, and objective reasoning as well as to intelligence systems and leaders at all levels to influence official estimates, ultimately resulting in foreign behaviors and official actions favorable to the originator's objectives. In various ways, perception management combines truth projection, operations security, cover and deception, and psychological operations.
