Well frankly you must admit it is a bit odd when people seem shocked and surprised with the manifestation and reality of violence horror and terror like these, that they seem actively to support, sanction, pay for and entertain themselves with and thus invest and encourage and then such comes in to fruition. You're kidding me right Like pleading ignorance that somehow sanctioning such in violent entertainment and abuse then it coming to a reality and neighborhood near you is strange and a surprise, Hey it all one boat. good one. ha ha, like what part of 'you reap what you sow " don't people understand. Personally myself i don't see the appeal of such, as life naturally seems to have enough pain and heartache and suffering than to perpetuate more.

I think Syria may be beginning to realize that a constitutional democracy, responsible government and rule of law, is not some fairy tale right or gift from some sovereign or body other but a perpetual hard won principle and practice of a self determining and democratic leaning peoples and it is thus the concerted democratic process of and at the UN that assures the inception of a true democracy in and at not only Syria but any other aspiring peoples.
Anything less after all might not be real democracy but some kind of dictated or pseudo democracy. Democracy, just courts and rule of law rarely thus come of votes alone but often of and with the sacrifices of those who wish such for themselves and theirs ie. to be free, law abiding and democratic. Though being a responsible democracy does not assure that one always gets what one wants all of the time but that what is got is what is best and just for the evolving most over time and over all via or thru regular fair elections.

In my analysis of current human events, the probable root cause of much of human societies apparent systemic dysfunctionality and angst would seem to be an inherent deep seated and mass programed self loathing, self hatred and habitual deceit, masked by a seemingly endless compulsion and addiction to over consume, possess, stimulate, control and be hyperactive.
I can't otherwise explain or attribute such a global and inherent self and other destructiveness ie sadomasochism as well as the pervasive narcissism much other way unless possibly as well as the stress and distress caused by overcrowding and overdesensitivity.

Similarly, public officials who are being accused of shading the truth are now frequently charged with engaging in "perception management" when disseminating information to media or to the general public.
Although perception management operations are typically carried out within the international arena between governments, and between governments and citizens, use of perception management techniques have become part of mainstream information management systems in many ways that do not concern military campaigns or government relations with citizenry. Businesses may even contract with other businesses to conduct perception management for them, or they may conduct it in-house with their public relations staff.
Perception management is a term originated by the U. S. military. The U. S. Department of Defense (DOD) gives this definition:
Actions to convey and/or deny selected information and indicators to foreign audiences to influence their emotions, motives, and objective reasoning as well as to intelligence systems and leaders at all levels to influence official estimates, ultimately resulting in foreign behaviors and official actions favorable to the originator's objectives. In various ways, perception management combines truth projection, operations security, cover and deception, and psychological operations.
