Again in the Humboldt Lab in Dahlem. See earlier entries in this blog like CURATORIAL STRATEGIES [link] and the final event mid October in Berlin.
The castle is comming and so the days here in Dahlem are counted. But Crisis also Challenge and Chance, so a title Always in Crisis? I can not resist. The subtitle: Questions of Representation in Museum for Non-European Arts and Cultures is a similar magnet for me, so why not stay the whole Saturday?
The participants are as one gentelman from India layed out is and "in-group", all exhibibition, anthropologists, and philosophy people, discussing here the future and fraings of exhibtions typically from abroad, pieces under discussion to be returend to their home countries.
I attend as the diverity of the topics, language, subjects and cultures is close to the problem spaces I am interested in since 20+ years. And I am right, they have similar topics, representation and fidelity, thruth and trust, ontological turns and turs all-over. I shared to some that these problems are not only a curators, but an international cultural and policy issue. Maybe some paricipants will follow some links. I will maintain contact to some of the very interesting panelist
Pls come back !! and check: [link] - Termine Link: [link] - Dokumentation Link: [link] - Blog Link: [link]

Eager to attend tonight: MACROCOSMI www.macrocosmi.org - A project curated by Pascual Jordan and Martina Cavallarin. From Galerie Gilla Lörcher Contemporary Art: Swiss artist Anna B. Wiesendanger. 21-26 January 2015
CUBO Centro Unipol Bologna presents MACROCOSMI – Pattern of another order, in collaboration with the Forum der Kulturen and curated by Martina Cavallarin and Pascual Jordan. It is a project for several voices moving in the international space of Contemporary art, along an axis of creativity connecting Bologna to Berlin and vice versa, on the occasion of the 39th edition of the January art fair, artefiera Bologna, and in compliance with the Institutional Project artCItY.
The MACROCOSMI project creates an artistic and intellectual debate among authors and artists interested in the investigation of the transient, of the unstable, namely of those “Pattern of another order” which are increasingly blurred, never fixed, always in constant transformation, just like contemporary society. In short: different points of view, perspectives that are constantly changing, systems that are not static, but full of variables thanks to the vision and imagination offered by the artwork.
CuBO spazio arte triggers, in a domino effect, the relationship between art and City, in a dialogue between people and urban areas involving the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, the Berlin association ngbK (neue gesellschaft für bildende Kunst), and teatri di vita, as well as prestigious Bolognese galleries involved in a two-way artistic exchange. Acomparison to explore similarities and differences between Italian and german artists.MACROCOSMI is under the patronage of the embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Rome and the patronage of the Italian embassy in Berlin during the Berlin Art Week with the support of the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Land of Berlin.
MACROCOSMI is also hosted by private Bolognese and Berliner spaces, theatre of cultural and intellectual dialogue between artists who have varied poetic codes and distant processuality, but whose works are constantly based on relationship and growth. therefore, the following Bolognese galleries will open their doors to the Pattern of another order: l’arIeteartecontemporanea, adiacenze, galleria testoni, Contemporary Concept artgallery, galleria studio g7 and associazione duepuntilab. On the other side of the alps, MaCrOCOsMI will be hosted by the ngbK cultural association and by relevant Berlin galleries, such as: galerie grundemark-nilsson, janinebeangallery, galerie Jordan-seydoux, Galerie Gilla Lörcher | Contemporary Art, Werkstattgalerie Berlin. check for more: [link]

Since Thursday till September 18th Literature Festival is on there the CITY OF THE FUTURE The Festival startet with a conversation by Liao Yiwu and Ai Weiwei in the Berlin Philharmonie, but for this check the special feature and full programme: [link]
Today were great sessions on Mumbai and other Large Cities in the world, Buenos Aires, Beijing, ... interesting, challenging, daunting, ....
I contributed form the floor only in the session about towns and challenges in China. I will add here - but need some time as my words have to be weighted carefully....
as size, scales, proportions and consequences are delicate measures and terms and they depend on the positions, perspectives, frames, expectations and intentions involved. Quite a theme for Literature...
By the way I asked Omar Akbahr how the thinking and experience of Doxiadis and his Ekistics are part of the reflections of this VISIONS 2030. He was very alert as he studied Doxiadis at TU-berlin, but declined sadly that this is not "on" these days". I promised to share this link, also for Omar: It is Part III of a series of Interviews with Dinos – Constantinos Doxiadis on NBC:
My personal this is on "how to intervene in systems" - and for this we need "pointers". I try it in a "birds eye" orientation/overview macroscopic mode. Maybe check: Anthony Judge - who perceived some "reminiscence":
Please come back and maybe now check the general information.
Within the framework of Science Year 2015 »Zukunftsstadt« (City of the Future), the ilb will present its programme »Visions 2030. Authors and Scientists on the Future of Cities«. Twelve international authors will discuss their texts exclusively written for the festival with twelve scientists from different disciplines. The kaleidoscope of future visions of the city will be complemented by the series »Talks of the city«. The authors Kevin Barry [Ireland], Mircea Cărtărescu [Romania], María Sonia Cristoff [Argentina], Roddy Doyle [Ireland], Sónia Gomes [Angola], Helon Habila [Nigeria/ USA], Rawi Hage [Lebanon/ Canada], Perihan Mağden [Turkey], Suketu Mehta [India/ USA], Laura Restrepo [Colombia/ Spain] and Boualem Sansal [Algeria] will be participating in this programme. They will debate with the following scientists: Zeynep Aygen [Turkey], Sonja Beeck [GER], Angelika Fitz [A], Adam Greenfield [USA], Martina Löw [GER], Hildegard Matthies [GER], Philipp Misselwitz [GER], Stephan Rammler [GER], Helmut Rechberger [A], Stefan Schurig [GER], Mark Shepard [USA] und Jasmin Wiefek [GER].
Again I wonder how we can bring together needed old and new skills and competences. What I heard the last days is not answering my question about the need for common frames for the "turns" and new ones to come.
Below is more about ELIG, fist time there is something in English. check [More below] but also: ACSI: [link]
I repeat here a selection of slides from Saturday. So maybe we start so constructive discussions on Old and New Turns and Turfs, and include the Human Dimensions requested in the opening talks today !
As the Humboldts where mentioned again and again I repeatedly shared the HIIG event on the issue: EXPLORING THE DIGITAL FUTURE: it is not only about the Humboldts, but Hegel, Fichte, Schleiermacher, Hufeland,.... and in the center ! General Geography: Carl RitterMore >

its already the second day today we have an EduCamp Barcamp today as a pre-event. A barcamp is something like an open-space, but a little "taylorized" and lacking the market-place ! Well there is always a compromise in live and facilitation, ....
But these CAMPS are successful, and ongoing, the 15th Educamp this week here in Berlin and with exciting topics and good and diverse participants. So good to check-in, maybe even come ! or just observe on- or offline.
Check the Higher Education events next week and more: [link] and there for example: ”Open educational ideas and innovations (OEI2)” day starting Monday. [more blog] [link] - see also my blog Sept 1st.:
The venue of the ECRP is part of the oldest Business School worldwide - originally from 1819 and in some locations in Europe - check the websites and history of the School.
My first session is on sharing and gifting of time, the second on vocational training, and now on Leadership in Digital Education Environments !! I spoke already with Ebba from Lund; Sveden this morning and will see her on Monday - see links and reports. https://ecber15.educamps.org/sessions/

Friday a full week on education and media, Check "digital turn".[link] here are some more links for tweeting and [link]
THIS IS WORK IN PROGRESS - and a fist time, as after 400 entries in this blog over the years, I will not report the "as was" - but my way towards the next event, even maybe inviting for some side-events, maybe here...: General Thinkers events.
I am presenting on Saturday in a Pecha Kucha: https://ecber15.educamps.org/sponsoren/ I presently have only slides in English - and every minute and word counts in a "pitch" - I have to polish the content and my German..... (But here are some slides from 4 weeks ago: Herrenhausen It was for another topic and audience, but you get the idea - at least of a few of my 6 minutes (on the mountain top "sticking my neck out"...
One of my concern is how to integrate not only my work on knowledge architectures and how you find something beyond words and "proper" spelling in different cultures and languages, but focus on the step before ! Deliberation and dialogue. pls check the Magic Roundtable time credit encouraging listening, harvesting and becoming aware of attention, interest and potential of what is said and how it can be put into action. Check OPEN-FORUM - Magic Roundtables and the Structured Dialogic Design method where you do influence voting and looking for deep drivers and leverage points, check Multi-track Deliberations, Diplomacy and Peacemaking
One of the first sessions I want to use to look into SHARING _ CARING _ DARING _ GIFTING - check the programme tomorrow !
My preliminary title for Saturday evening is: WECKRUF: Was kommt als nächster "Turn"? It is about technological, scientific, societal, cultural "turns" and I will ask who is at the bridge, and if there are maps and directions ..... for future Education, Media, Policymaking, and more....
enjoy and keep in touch as I will update during the next days... <>

today I attended the IFA pre-press-event to see what the "Partner of the Future" has in store and in the evening join again a meet-up, this time with an exciting title: Future: Framework, Fantasy or Fate?
In both cases I remember that there is no Future !! There is only the plural, futures! and we have to design these futures !!
Hearing here at the IFA: <<"Design is the Product" - Das Design ist das Produkt" - "Successful Business Models are well designed" - Erfolgreiche Geschäftsmodelle sind gut gestaltet>> makes me wonder. I know about funtions, features, benefits as we called FFB long ago, maybe also add design. But such oversimplifications look very misleading, and when we hear that 30% exchange a functioning product with a product with a little more energy efficiency, ignoring the life-cycle of the product and even Cradle to Cradle - C2C or murks. Maybe Futures are more and more intangible and unreliable? eras of manipulations, deceptions and marketing hype (words without meaning and clear context/referents. See the German word Plastic Words: Worthülsen .....
DIGITAL TURN - some thoughts...
I am in the middle of preparing a "pitch" in an "edu pecha kucha" event next week. That is why I wonder about the digital-hype. I recall the "canyon of coded and non-coded data" and what people thought around digital Futures - 30 years ago, earlier and after that time: photokina 1985 (digial photography), WCGA 1985 (infographics), ...

I am attending the press-open parts of the week for foreign representations of Germany overseas. Not only to meet some old and new people, and get latest trends, but to check out the very special title of this years event.
Order/Frames, Design/Gestaltung and not only Chaos and Crisis, are very central in this blog. Check the website [link] the conference [link] - and the opening by Steinmeier [link]
I am presently preparing a Pecha Kucha "pitch" the focus on Order, Turns, Media, Education,... for next week.
Chaos/Crisis - Order/Frames - Gestaltung/Design: You see the spectrum of meaning [link], the spaces between the words and concepts. Maybe check in this blog: [link] and come back, I will add the link here: ****
This is Heiner Benking's News Log, a private-public diary presenting events, symposia and happenings in Berlin and elsewhere - my farings, foci, issues and concerns.
PLEASE CONSIDER THIS PERSONAL BLOG an ARTISTIC and PERFORMATIVE MEDIA INTERVENTION !
The Log links to my work and interests and presents issues and special concern of maybe a very small group of "concerned, engaged generalist" - a Global Interest Group (GIG). This needs to be seen in contrast to the ubiquitous Specialized Interest Groups (SIGs), the "scientific" approach to organize subject areas and specialization and standardization and harmonization! of means, nomenclatures, and modes of thinking. My favorite stories in the WHOLENESS SEMINAR include:
BELA BANATHY: "GENESIS
OF GENERAL SYSTEMS THEORY" and "IVAN HAVEL: Longing for Unified Knowledge" where a "specialist" runs into the founding session of the early foundations General Systems, mumbling "this is not my field" or where Ivan M. Havel expresses his search for other kinds of knowledge.
As a starter I also recommend to check my MINDPRINT site, where we add the need for HANDPRINTS and MINDPRINTS, as FOOTPRINTS are good to visualize and communicate numbers, densities or consumption per area, but are not sufficient to negotiate and "harmonize" across domains and communicate gains in different cultures, technologies, times,... in short: incompatible but relevant information and our work on dialog, peace, policy-making, and multi-modal, faceted issues and consequences.
What am I? This is a "well-packed" question for which I have not the or a single answer. Some called me an in-betweener, go-getter, facilitator, hub, marvel-hero, trim-tab, bricoleur, bricoleers??? - career designeer, .... Some even "hank" which I disliked or Story which I liked very much !!
I have no single answer as I feel we need to walk the talk and sing and dance Life ! in spectra and fields in multiple embodied spaces.
To nebulous an answer? I am sorry but I do not go for overclaims and oversimplifications, under-complex and over-simplistic approaches with clan-think mindsets about real issues in clear contexts!
