Just returning from the "Show" / Schau „Weltwissen“
„Weltwissen“ in the Martin Gropius-Bau.
Unfortunatley it only a historic exhibition which puts Berlin as the center of the scientific world. Well done ! high quality, ... but what a hybris.... and sooo one-eyed.
Tired now ! but I think it is time to present more under such an heading !
I feel it is time to review the 100 - 200 - 300 years celebrations in Berlin. Maybe there is more than just looking back, and maintaining one viewpopint...

Yesterday we had an interesting public lecture in this years Tagore- Einstein Council session which focussed on preparing 150 years Rabindranath Tagore Council celebrations globally in 2011.
The public keynote featured Marilyn Wilhelm begin_of_the_skype_highlighting end_of_the_skype_highlighting and her Wilhelm Scholê International. Marilyn has developed a global curriculum which nicely coincides with the new reforms of the basic education system in Germany [more].
THE outstanding points for me where the differentiation needed about general concepts we all use but never question in modern times. Marilyn pointed to tragic mis-understanding or mis-conceptions (and often gross translationn errors) after for example Einstein's Relativity Theory in contrast to his original Invariantentheorie.
It seems like in "modern" science and modernity, with the advent of moderen media, computers, databases, and the internet, central concepts have been lost or where distorted or warped.
We later also mentioned harmonisation in contrast to homogenisations/standardization. [More about harmonization, standardisation, homogenisation] and a mcuh needed Humane Information and Widom society need further study and exploration I think and invite to check out some old projects/concepts:

It is a project funded by the Europen Union and close to the Cyprus World Future Center Cypriot Turkish-Greek Dialogues. So have a look on some experience available not only in the Mideast or Mediterranean.
For me the title was like a deja vue, the Noble Peace Laureats last years were talking about subjects with titles close to this:PDF or Slidshare.

Again for 40 years we can celebrate Earth Day. But which earth day? Earth day at Equinox? Southern or Northers Hemisphere?

Yesterdays eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano called back lasting memories, a story from 1988, where in the press conference Prof. Degens was not ready to paint a icture a lasting nightmare of an overheated planet or ice-age planet.
The media pushed hard but he refused to paint a nighmare scenario, as this would not be science he said roughly, the media should look back in earth history and make out there own conclusion, he only mentioned later that new might be only the degree of possible rapid change.
For people in environmental research this is obvious if we think twice, but it was for the media something they angrily commented: Scientists not telling what to expect and what is going on !
Now 22 year later this looks funny, now we know, even created possible ceilings and guard rails, as politics were more demanding than media, to have scientist do the forecast or outlook requested. But what is this IPCC knows and can predict the Future, specially when there are obviously only futures in plural and can not be predicted Neither in natural nor in social and cultural human worlds !
This is not a contrarian view ! I was reading with Ernst Ulrich von Weiszsäcker about CONTRARIANS already in the late 80ies, when he was in Bonn and Brussels, about these denying "CONTRARIANS" who refused to consider man-made impacts - on this considered stable and endless system of Planet Earth !

In Santa Fe we learned that the more we study complexity, the more we are perplexed ! So let us step back, check the issues and context and not not consider we know whne we do not ! - or just need to meet at certain number to be safe and can continue to muddle trough as always, all heads deeep in the sands, fogs, dust, ashes....
Finally, what we experience today is not the last call ! Nature as icon in time has experienced much worse in times, but humanity is getting more fragile ever day, so we have to be on the watch on the proportions and consequences, the potential infliction of suffering. [link]

The Log links to my work and interests and presents issues and special concern of maybe a very small group of "concerned, engaged generalist" - a Global Interest Group (GIG). This needs to be seen in contrast to the ubiquitous Specialized Interest Groups (SIGs), the "scientific" approach to organize subject areas and specialization and standardization and harmonization! of means, nomenclatures, and modes of thinking. My favorite stories in the WHOLENESS SEMINAR include:
BELA BANATHY: "GENESIS
OF GENERAL SYSTEMS THEORY" and "IVAN HAVEL: Longing for Unified Knowledge" where a "specialist" runs into the founding session of the early foundations General Systems, mumbling "this is not my field" or where Ivan M. Havel expresses his search for other kinds of knowledge.
As a starter I also recommend to check my MINDPRINT site, where we add the need for HANDPRINTS and MINDPRINTS, as FOOTPRINTS are good to visualize and communicate numbers, densities or consumption per area, but are not sufficient to negotiate and "harmonize" across domains and communicate gains in different cultures, technologies, times,... in short: incompatible but relevant information and our work on dialog, peace, policy-making, and multi-modal, faceted issues and consequences.
What am I? This is a "well-packed" question for which I have not the or a single answer. Some called me an in-betweener, go-getter, facilitator, hub, marvel-hero, trim-tab, bricoleur, bricoleers??? - career designeer, .... Some even "hank" which I disliked or Story which I liked very much !!
I have no single answer as I feel we need to walk the talk and sing and dance Life ! in spectra and fields in multiple embodied spaces.
To nebulous an answer? I am sorry but I do not go for overclaims and oversimplifications, under-complex and over-simplistic approaches with clan-think mindsets about real issues in clear contexts!
