Petersberg Climate Dialogue VI: Agreements and realities ...

Petersberg Climate Dialogue VI
"Making the Paris Agreement a reality" [link]
4 to 5 July 2016 in Berlin, Germany

again the central talks between the "summits" getting the parties into a circle. I like the format, feel that this is more F2F than all this U - GA where little dialogue and Q&As are possible, and definitely such a place, improving the formats could be really doing a difference.

We just had the opening presse conference and I will try to report, even when my focus is now towards 2030 and the UN High Level talks next week and ongoing....

So please come back ! and meanwhile check #bmub30

Federal Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks is hosting the seventh Petersberg Climate Dialogue together with the Moroccan foreign minister and incoming President of the next UN Climate Change Conference, Salaheddine Mezouar. Since 2010, the annual dialogue has provided the opportunity for countries to engage in an informal exchange of experiences on international climate policy.

This year, the meeting will be attended by representatives from 35 countries and is particularly significant. With the adoption of the historic Paris Agreement in December last year, the international community made a commitment to ambitious climate action measures so as to limit global warming to well below under 2 degrees Celsius in the long term. Extensive progress was also made on issues such as adaptation to the consequences of climate change and climate finance.

Dialogue on Europe - Progressive Center Townhall Meetings
picture picture picture picture 29 Jun 2016 @ 08:22
Yesterday the theme was "rebuilding trust and redefining Europe in tough times"
[link]

#DialogueOnEurope

After successful Town Hall Meetings in Athens, Lisbon, Rome, Marseille and Madrid on was the kick of for the Berlin dialogues yesterday in the Foreign Office in Berlin. Once again representatives from civil society, NGOs, local initiatives, startups, think tanks, the cultural sector and from the media gathered to discuss the most pressing challenges we are currently facing and exchanged ideas about how to work towards a strengthened and progressive Europe. Very timely after BREXIT ....

Interesting participants, I enjoyed meeting some old and new friends/people. But, I have some reservations about such "gatherings" with lots of words written on paper in workshops and many presentations ... but let us give this effort a chance. Times are challenging and the diversity of participants is very wide, so maybe we get some new approaches which can be put into action.

More later...

OSCE Security Days & Citizens Futures Sharing and Making (only)?
picture 24 Jun 2016 @ 10:22
Times of Change --- Citizens in the Ministry and mayor International Players meet around the OSCE Security Days (2016): [link] and (2015): [link] in Berlin in times of Brexit.
Check German chairmanship and the 3 dimensions: [link] and the tweets: #secdays and this outline by the organizers: The OSCE region is facing a number of critical security challenges that are too complex for any one country or organization to tackle alone. European security is in crisis and there is a clear danger that new dividing lines are opening up in the OSCE area. The rapidly growing global insecurity adds additional risks and threats to regional security in the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian region. States, regional organizations and civil society actors are all searching for ways to reduce risks, remedy the confrontational relations and return to co-operation in Europe.

The event is co-organized by the OSCE, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung FES: [link] and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. KAS: [link]

The OSCE title is very ambitious: "FROM CONFRONTATION TO CO-OPERATION" and the ytalk a lot about harmonization, shared policies, and common collaborative spaces...
I am very happy to have such events, as there the stakeholders from all "shores" are on the table. I am tired of all this "SIG" SPECIAL INTEREST GORUPS gatherings - and nobody dares to take on GIG - Global Interest Groups" perspectives.

One on the FES Podium spoke about an "Insecurity Day" and the hollow words and narratives.

The Level like with the CSCE long ago *** is on a high and open level, long periods for questions form the floor, which is already something - evn when the sessions are not taped and like in the old days the questions and responses - leading to discussions and clarifications - transcriped. So maybe we should look back for "conversation cultures" when we mention new social web and media.

I came out strong yesterday after the Citizens Dialogues in out Minitry of Education and Technology (BMBF) and a moment ago in the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. And received some positive response - very awarding !!

After getting over family affairs the last months I decided to be a little more clear even when my topics are wide and deep !

COME BACK LATER and check the OSCE website and maybe join LIFE: [link]

I only joined the OSCE "NIGHT OWL" session late [link] as I was drawn into some exchanges at a Peoples Hearing in the German Ministry of Education and Technology (BMBF) about sharing and making. See: ZukunftsForum II: Tauschen, Teilen, Selbermachen https://www.zukunft-verstehen.de/zukunftsforen/zukunftsforum-2 I could not resist to add from the flour my "pitch" on sharing and gifting, and had not only applause, but many questions, requests and exchanges !! Here the central links on the "article in progress" since long: [link], now due for July 2016 on the difference on traditional and modern times as triggered by my work on "Magic Roundtables". [link]

So I continued with the OSCE today, and will invest some more time into the issues of positions, perspectives, views, boundaries, verbiage, mindsets, assumptions,....

Die Große Transformation und das Schweigen der Medien

20. - 21. Juni 2016
10:00 - 13:00 Uhr
Ev.

Lots about the "in-between" and bundaries, scales, proportions, consequences,... in the Parliament, Bellevue Foundations and Residencies....

exhausted not only after the Nachhaltigkeitsrat and the German Habitat, lots is common but seperated in our minds....

I hope to find some time to add here some essence and "juice" soon...
I ws "sticking my neck out" at HABITAT, SEAS, and Bellevue,... well I ffel it is time to step back, view from a distance, see the bigger picture, and speak out ! - let us go !!

German HABITAT FORUM - Urban Solutions for HABITAT III
picture picture 1 Jun 2016 @ 12:15
German Habitat Forum [link]
Our Development Minister Gerd Müller - who was also yesterday at the Sustainability Council annual event [link] just mentioned that towns and regions - urban and rural - (pagan?) have to work together hand in hand - this seems to be often forgotten. the SRU has published yesterday some recommendations - taylord also for the HABITAT event today: [link]

We have exhibitions here for SMART CITIES - but I really see no new solutions - which go to the roots !!

He mentions ***** check: ****** Gerda Kauri ...? need for new paradigms and the question of infrastructure, building materials, .... He is right, like yesterday, but aren't this realizations not old !? very old !? He urges for new solutions, but this quest I have heard in town-planning and regional development in the mid 70ies, and early 90ies again in China - so clear - so obvious - so appealing and desperate - but what has been achieved... ? I am getting very concerned - more and more - each day - even when working on all these positive difference making that matters...

There was also a "side-event" in the German Parliament by the Nachhaltigkeitsrat about commitments by MDBs for "their" SDG - Well timed by both Advisory Councils N and WBGU - congrats to both offices.

Transformative Global Climate Governance “après Paris”

2 rich days again on transformation and climate research. Very special elders from the US speaking and active young researchers struggling with the challenges after the Paris Climate outcomes.

I enjoy meeting old friends and good researchers and activists and take in this very special academic talk. Check the links !

The talk of our 2 days a lot about transformation and multi-level governance.
I show around the new book from Yehezkel Dror: Avant Garde Plolitician - Leaders for a New Epoche https://www.linkedin.com/in/yehezkel-dror-71209178 and the forthcomming book on Glocal Studies The Glocal and Global Studies, GLOCALIZATIONS 2015, Victor Roudometof (2015), Taylor & Francis 2015, doi:10.1080/14747731.2015.1016293, (see also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glocalization#History_of_the_concept)
and realise they can only work in their slot or box. The positive thing: They are increasingly aware about it. But is this enough??
I share a little about my Cognitive Superstructure and about Supersigns and Superstructures. Maybe someone is interested: [link]

As the title sets forwards - the conference is about research for climate policy &governance, little about how to transformations going. Only the dinner speach by Jenniger MOrgan (Greenpeace) and the SEMI-PLENARY IV, Chair Imme Scholz , DIE go beyond this narrow focus. Imme is adressing the 2030 AGENDA and I had mentioned on the first day from the floor that we need Leverage Projects and Solutions.  CITIZEN SCIENCE FEST & THINKCAMP
picture picture 21 May 2016 @ 08:10
Day III of our ECSA gathering and symposium. Really well designed and deep, and hte weather is great !
I see that the event is science, geo, and museum based, and leaves ample space for adressing multi-lingual, multi-cultural, library, and more policy and governace related issues.
Great experts, but the the THINK CAMP and FEST Starts. So better let me take a break and go to GLEISDREIECK.

Before we still 4 thrilling tracks, check the programme ! [link]
and the twitter tweets.

This is Heiner Benking's News Log, a private-public diary presenting events, symposia and happenings in Berlin and elsewhere - my farings, foci, issues and concerns.

PLEASE CONSIDER THIS PERSONAL BLOG an ARTISTIC and PERFORMATIVE MEDIA INTERVENTION !

The Log links to my work and interests and presents issues and special concern of maybe a very small group of "concerned, engaged generalist" - a Global Interest Group (GIG). This needs to be seen in contrast to the ubiquitous Specialized Interest Groups (SIGs), the "scientific" approach to organize subject areas and specialization and standardization and harmonization! of means, nomenclatures, and modes of thinking. My favorite stories in the WHOLENESS SEMINAR include:
BELA BANATHY: "GENESIS
OF GENERAL SYSTEMS THEORY"
and "IVAN HAVEL: Longing for Unified Knowledge" where a "specialist" runs into the founding session of the early foundations General Systems, mumbling "this is not my field" or where Ivan M. Havel expresses his search for other kinds of knowledge.
As a starter I also recommend to check my MINDPRINT site, where we add the need for HANDPRINTS and MINDPRINTS, as FOOTPRINTS are good to visualize and communicate numbers, densities or consumption per area, but are not sufficient to negotiate and "harmonize" across domains and communicate gains in different cultures, technologies, times,... in short: incompatible but relevant information and our work on dialog, peace, policy-making, and multi-modal, faceted issues and consequences.
What am I? This is a "well-packed" question for which I have not the or a single answer. Some called me an in-betweener, go-getter, facilitator, hub, marvel-hero, trim-tab, bricoleur, bricoleers??? - career designeer, .... Some even "hank" which I disliked or Story which I liked very much !!
I have no single answer as I feel we need to walk the talk and sing and dance Life ! in spectra and fields in multiple embodied spaces.
To nebulous an answer? I am sorry but I do not go for overclaims and oversimplifications, under-complex and over-simplistic approaches with clan-think mindsets about real issues in clear contexts!
