Yesterday AENBC around AEDES had a very interesting and central event !
baumschlager eberle 2226 – ein gebautes Manifest
Building differently !
I asked some questions and feel his contribution is really important for the "build environment" I mentioned Tolba recently and I feel we need to go back to Square One in many of our societal questions. Building and Infrastructure is but one.
I indroduced myself with the standard quote of my "profession": "Wer viel mißt, misst viel Mist" - this has to do not only with the "big data- big noise problematique" but that we have k.o.-criteria in certain slots or segments/trades and have missed the bigger picture. And this is what the problem of our constructions is about - inefficent, waist of engery, missing overall design according to the human scale!
Eberle has been building examples - for example with his 2226 - but as he is out of the box and so not prize-worthy - and so the journals and general public has a chance to avoid central questions !
He mentions a science based on praxi - even maybe more radical than Leibniz, asking us to follow the craftsmen - who have without formulas a "best praxis". I asked him about his teacher and his approach to traditional and local colorit expertise and implementation in China, India,... and he responded very positively. WE have to build according to the environment and the needs of the people, not technology or convenience driven .... Ecclectic Sceinces, Bricoleur, Citizen Sciences and discussed more recently came up - as further questions, ... but maybe another time !!
I had heard the name of his teacher Anton Schweighofer from my boss Alfred Schinz [link], but he was not aware of that connect between the need for searching for other building traditions in cultures with different climate, materials, conditions, requirement. We agreed to maybe explore this again.
I feel always good when people mention their "traditions" or at least give some "foundations" so you can imagine the base, toots and wings...
I strongly recommend to visit: Baumschlager-Eberle [link] and come back - WORK IN PROGRESS ...

meta-data - meta data and world building - what a tall theme and great progress the last 25 years !! I am thrilled ! as an "in-betweener"....
It’s showtime:
check: Entreprenurial Regions [link] and
Leading-edge Research and Innovation in the New German Länder[link]
Check the research project: Forschungsprojekt "dwerft": [link]
We have discussed here meta - data - data-about-data
or meta - information = information about information
and this in a very challenging field of applications!
Interesting - and demanding ! I will try to stay close to the matters and see how semantic and other presentations find common ground....

Tonight is the Opening of this very special exhibition.
Check: [link] and please come back.
I am thrilled to see of the exhibits and know again how little we know and how ignorant we are.
I helpd organizing the presentation of my friend Leonora Peters at the Humboldt Universität some years ago and travelled 40+ years ago to MEXICO.
What is presented here is very new and intriguing and exciting - I will visit the exhibition again.

Only few of the heads of UN organisations or programes are as vivid in my memory as Mostafa Kamal Tolba. I learned last week he passed away in Geneva March 28. He was for UNEP in office for 17 years and I would hope that other UN executive would have the same commitment and experience and would not leave office the moment they understood their institution inside and outside in the UN family and the world.
This lack of overview and long-view is a central problem I see with our "leaders" today. Check the new book from Yehrzkel Dror about other leaders for new epoches/times.
Definitely it also needs people as "cross-fertilized" or "gate-crashers" along and across various organisations, in various sectors, cultures, and at all levels! But this is not my point now. I believe Tolba was like Tietze able to act across sectors, scales, cultures and times.
Nowadays I see most of the time only the struggle for personal gains. Leaders and Editors like these men have seemingly left this place...
When looking back Tolba was deep and friendly, attentive and responsive in comparison not only to all the other UNEP - or UN DGs I had the honor to meet over the years. He definitely stands out. Even when I very much admire the DGs who served as role models, even when the international structures are deserving... More >

At HKW I attended the "100 years Present Time" exhibition and can fully recommend to check it out! Beside Language and Knowledge next week and Technosphere and Knowledge in 2 weeks a lot is going on this spring: [link]
Matthias Spielkamp did a great exhibition tour and I like the whole exhibition and in particular the white room. A nice part of the exhibition done by Tactical Media [link]
I showed Mathias my page of Infographics [link] and Blackboxes, Whiteboxes and Greyboxes, and Colourboxes. [link] Maybe I should have called it rooms of spaces 25 years ago...
Now there is a workshop by "Peng!" https://www.pen.gg/ - and I feel like having a deja vue thinking about Christoph Schlingensief..... We share experiences with campaigns and how to learn from activists....

This is important for me and maybe also for you. It is about what we think and do about Community, Trust, Commons, Policy and Understanding.
Maybe check also my mentor profile, activities around digital strategy and policy: [link] and the team: [link]
This draft relates to the bigger context: “The Magic Roundtable; challenges of bridging/combining benefits of traditional gifting and modern “sharing”.[link] Maybe check it out and comment ! Due for Mother Pelican, Journal for Solidarity and Sustainability, May 2016

Now Achim Steiner UNEP is on. Ban Ki-Moon was just on the video wall. Check the recordings! Join me now listening José Graziano da Silva and n@ForumForAg #FFA2016
[link] Phil Hogan.
José Graziano mentioned also the need for mind-change and change of procedures and ways of communication in the UN, EC, National government and administration system. BRAVO.
I hope below provides some grids and concrete ways to interact and act. So let us get out of our SILOS!
Check our UN ECOSOC Common Actions SDG recommendations September 2015 [link] - win-win Leverage Solutions Footnote for "win-win-win" solution frameworks in common frames of references:
[16] [link] Exemplary projects for such winning, overarching solution include projects linking the following sectors: Terra Preta/Biochar, Ecology, Development, Ecology, Housing and Agriculture, … ReefFormers: Oceans, Food, Health, Work, Infrastructure, Agriculture, … Ecologic Housing and Cooking, Health, Gardening, Mangroves and Forrest protection, Habitat Preservation. Examples should grow into “living collection of BLUE-GREEN solution.
and maybe other Mother Pelican articles: !! highly recommended: [link]
check: Ban, Amina, Achim, José, ... just check the videos and official FFA websites ! and while waiting maybe check the 2015 Videos: [link]
Jeffrey Sachs is on now after a commemoration minute for the Bruxuelles Terror outside today.
And "besides" it is Earth Day today ! I mean the original Earth Day at EQUINOX - there is no Bell to ring here, but maybe some people like to check this page:http://www.newciv.org/nl/newslog.php/_v396/__show_article/_a000396-000107.htm
::::::::::
It is now March 24 and I made it to leave Brussels overnight....
I have to pick this up later ... but at least it was good to get some "air-time" from the floor at the FUTURE gathering and good taks in the lobby and later !! even in such nightmare times ....

I am exited to visit the WORLD PREMIER "by chance" of the 26 years old ENGLISH THEATER BERLIN, The International Performing Arts Center.

I have many issues I want to cover here, as I was really moved and I fully resonnated with many parts and the performancy - maybe tomorrow !?
visit the WEBSITE - I am rushing - work in Progress !
Transcendence
Einstein, Kafka and Planck vs. Time, Space and Conventions
World Premiere of a new play by Robert Marc Friedman
"You can withdraw from all the world's suffering-- for you that possibility is open, but perhaps that withdrawal is the ownly suffering you might be able to avoid" Franz Kafka, Zürau Aphorisms
To make see decision you better come to the performance in the theater and get some "learnings" from the turmoil and cultural transitions and fights those days.... or check the 100th of EINSTEIN some years ago, I think 2011: [link]
From the brochure:
"The foundations of European society were being shaken and World War I was about to deal them a final blow when Albert Einstein presented his general theory of relativity in Berlin on November 25, 1915 – now even space, time, gravity and the cosmos were no longer what they used to be. Everything seemed to be relative, all conventions were crumbling and God had left the building."
English Theatre Berlin | International Performing Arts Center receives funding from Regierender Bürgermeister von Berlin, Staatskanzlei für Kulturelle Angelegenheiten.
"Within a few years, Einstein emerged as an internationally-acclaimed scientist comparable to Copernicus or Newton. In Stockholm, however, the Nobel Committe .... " [More] below
As some of you we are preparing presently the TAGORE-EINSTEIN-COUNCIL 20 years celebrations and symposion. So maybe also check our website: [link] and revisit the questions around:

This is Heiner Benking's News Log, a private-public diary presenting events, symposia and happenings in Berlin and elsewhere - my farings, foci, issues and concerns.
PLEASE CONSIDER THIS PERSONAL BLOG an ARTISTIC and PERFORMATIVE MEDIA INTERVENTION !
The Log links to my work and interests and presents issues and special concern of maybe a very small group of "concerned, engaged generalist" - a Global Interest Group (GIG). This needs to be seen in contrast to the ubiquitous Specialized Interest Groups (SIGs), the "scientific" approach to organize subject areas and specialization and standardization and harmonization! of means, nomenclatures, and modes of thinking. My favorite stories in the WHOLENESS SEMINAR include:
BELA BANATHY: "GENESIS
OF GENERAL SYSTEMS THEORY" and "IVAN HAVEL: Longing for Unified Knowledge" where a "specialist" runs into the founding session of the early foundations General Systems, mumbling "this is not my field" or where Ivan M. Havel expresses his search for other kinds of knowledge.
As a starter I also recommend to check my MINDPRINT site, where we add the need for HANDPRINTS and MINDPRINTS, as FOOTPRINTS are good to visualize and communicate numbers, densities or consumption per area, but are not sufficient to negotiate and "harmonize" across domains and communicate gains in different cultures, technologies, times,... in short: incompatible but relevant information and our work on dialog, peace, policy-making, and multi-modal, faceted issues and consequences.
What am I? This is a "well-packed" question for which I have not the or a single answer. Some called me an in-betweener, go-getter, facilitator, hub, marvel-hero, trim-tab, bricoleur, bricoleers??? - career designeer, .... Some even "hank" which I disliked or Story which I liked very much !!
I have no single answer as I feel we need to walk the talk and sing and dance Life ! in spectra and fields in multiple embodied spaces.
To nebulous an answer? I am sorry but I do not go for overclaims and oversimplifications, under-complex and over-simplistic approaches with clan-think mindsets about real issues in clear contexts!
