 Angels; Hospitality: Sharing

Angels; Hospitality: Sharing

A Lecture given by
The Kabal Barak Negby
February, 1998

It is written in the Book of Genesis, chapter 32, 3:
"Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in the Seir range of the Edom country ".
Apparently it seems to be a peculiar phenomena: Man sending angels.
We are used to refer to angels as God's messengers rather than man's servants.
They either bring or take something from a person or they tell man the word of The Lord meaning being sent by divine powers.
Thus each messenger is really an angel in his true meaning.  More >

 A Year Without Tagliabue20 comments
picture1 Aug 2007 @ 13:19, by jazzolog. Ideas, Creativity
All of us are watchers---
of television, of time clocks,
of traffic on the freeway---but
few are observers. Everyone is
looking, not many are seeing.

---Peter M. Leschak

You ask why I live in the mountain forest,
and I smile and am silent,
And even my soul remains quiet:
It lives in the other world
Which no one owns.
The peach trees blossom.
The water flows.

---Li Po

My nature is subdued
to what it works in,
like the dyer's hand.

---William Shakespeare

Amid hectic preparations for a move to Providence, Rhode Island, Professor of English Emeritus John Tagliabue---the muse of Bates College for more than forty years---and his wife, Grace, took time out for portraits by Phyllis Graber Jensen in the garden of Muskie Archives. The caption, a fragment from a poem in John's book New And Selected Poems: 1942-1997, reads "...a breeze hails our way,
we lift our sails;
we hold on to each other for dear life." (Bates Magazine, Spring 1998)

And so a year has gone by. A year without friend and poet John Tagliabue. A year without Tagliabue and the sun has shined its radiance with slight dimness. Music of the spheres has played less sparkling. The dancers whirl without shout. His death last year was certainly at his time, but it has meant a year without my teacher pushing me closer to the edge.

Besides a flutter of poems tumbling out like petals from blossoms, his letters and conversation always contained what books to read. He urged them as he did his assignments, shrugging off your foolishness if obviously you didn't read them. There were exhibits at the museums and he would tell you. Dancers and actors on the boards, and he needed to share with his own advertisements. There were foods and people from so many countries to visit. Be sure to have pad and pencil for jotting down impressions of human scenes on the train.

One time, when I was a junior at Bates College, where he taught and I learned, he decided he wanted to see Martha Graham dance in New York. It might be her very last time. We were in Maine. John had a car but he never learned to drive. Refused to. Usually his wife Grace took him somewhere he needed to be, but for some reason this time he asked a few of us students if we wanted to drive him. And we'd see La Martha of course.  More >

HUMANITY SUCKS!

Well it is perhaps a given fact and truism that we must accept, that humanity or we suck. So having established this common fact. Do we want to do anything about it. We could try to change or improve ourselves or maybe just kill ourselves off, which we seem at times to be quite far along the way in doing.
We suck! Well gosh darn why didn't someone tell us. No one knew? Well okay we can qualify that a little I guess that most of us suck or the ones the run the show suck and cause us to suck in the process. The fact is that the majority of us would seem to suck and as a case in point are sucking the life blood as we know it, out of the planet as we know it. Yes things change and yes few have sustainable principles and the ones that do we have a tendancy to cruxify or assacinate which just demos our prevalance of suckiness further. And yes we adapt quite well as we seem to have adapted right into suckhood to show our suckiness?

Well s there we have it then. Humanity sucks. We suck. Don't say you didn't know. But knowing that what does that change? Well if you want to change you have to identify the offensive aspect and then take steps or measures to address if some are so inclined. Do I suck? Well I'm sort of human so I guess yes I do suck. Do you suck, well you'll have to be the judge of that but offhand chances are you do, as studies indicate that only 1 % of humanity is operating at potential.

So we've got about 7,777,777,777 suckers and 1% actually natural people.

Anyway... so what to do?

Well I guess accept our suckiness is the first step and perhaps try to define what unsuckiness is. What the actual right way of living is. Well no I don't know because I have a disability of sorts and 99% don't know so could the 1 % that do know raise their hands and help us out here?

And how or who are these "natural folks"?

Well there was Moses, and Buddha and jesus and Lincoln and Luther and Kenndey
and Billie Hughes and Mother Teresa and Joan of Arc and King Alfred and well Mahatma Gandhi and well theres a few but theyre all dead...

hmmmm?

Playing Go - Braille Alphabet - Cognition - Creativity - Intelligence / Choice
picture picture 28 Jul 2007 @ 15:01, by feecor. Investigation, Intelligence
I was intrigued by the recent article about computability of games - how homoludens is outmastered by the computer, when playing Chess, Backgammon, ... but not Go !
Why ? and what that means for cognition, imagination, and pattern-languages, but also to the Braille-Alphabet for us blind people in modern media and globalisation, and what I think can be done to add human capabilities to keep "in check" advanced full-text research research like from Google, and add the big picture of the context, the broader orientation or big picture. We here at NewCiv used to have and put in visions of a new civilization from time to time. Many of course have written about the new civilization as have I. So again, I call for anyone to place a vision of a new civilization here.  More >

Healthy Kids have enormous energy 8 comments
picture26 Jul 2007 @ 12:44, by jerryvest. Children, Parenting
It is--the need to love others and to be loved; the qualities of curiosity, inquisitiveness, thirst for knowlege; the need to learn; imagination, creativity, openmindedness, experimental-mindedness; the sense of humor, playfulness, joy, the optimism, honesty, resilience, and compassionate intelligence--that constitute the spirit of the child. Growing Young, Ashley Montagu

Do we have the 'spirit' to stay up with our kids and grandkids?

I'm not sure how much energy I have left today to write a log on "staying up" with kids. As we know, when all of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual systems are in balance, an abundance of energy manifests in all four realms--so it can be great fun to engage our grandkids fully. In a day's time, we play ball, write a "Daily Family Newsletter," go golfing, swim, play cards, go biking, play video games, review the Tarot, and still have time to eat three meals, take pictures and make a video. What a Day this Makes!!!

I am truly amazed at how much energy kids have and how they love to express it with their whole being. It is no wonder that school is so hard for them when they must curtail their physical activities and sit for a long period of time without being able to express themselves fully. It is obvious that their minds are wide open and in the moment so they can express their creativity and joy in living with their whole being when given the opportunity. They laugh, sing, dance, drum, and play freely without any inhibition or limitation. Oh, once in awhile they have some usual sibling rivalries, and the age differences present some challenges: however, the honesty and innocence of children's expression of emotions allows them to get angry, upset and they usually get over it just as quickly as it comes. Hmm, if only we adults could be so skillful and flexible.

Anyway, this is a short article I will expand upon as we enter our 2nd. week of vacation together with our grandkids--Ari (age 9), Beau (Age 8) and Daeja (age 5).

During some quiet times, Ariana made several short videos related to being Mindful: "Learning the difference between Mindfulness and Accidents"- [link]  More >
