NCN: Update 4 May 95

A dedicated server for NCN will soon be activated at the newciv.org domain.
This will allow some more flexibility in terms of managing mailing lists
and creating alternative ways of accessing the traffic.

Joachim Steingrubner <jhs@primenet.com> and I are working on a scheme that
could provide a way of personally configure one's participation in
different NCN activities, so one better can see the traffic one wants to
see and not the traffic one doesn't want to see. A sort of personal
mind-map that will do away with some of the need for keeping track of who's
in which group and list addresses and so forth. Well, Joachim is doing most
of the work, to be precise, but it looks promising at this point.

As soon as I get the opportunity I will add a second global list for NCN,
intended for free general discussion, which there seems to be some need
for, so that we can keep this list lean and focused on team accomplishments
and administrative matters.

Currently several mailing lists are kindly being provided to us by Paul Stevens
<paul@wice.xs4all.nl> that are being used by the busiest teams. These are
now also available in digest mode.

This is a list of currently active groups or teams that I am aware of:

TeamWork
Network Administration
Creativity
Alternative Money Systems
Energy
Ethics/Social Laws
PersonCo
Spirituality
New Civ Model One E-mail Crew
ArtCo
COSMOS Learning Network
World Knowledge Network

If I am missing something, please let me know.

Currently most teams are open for you to join them if you are interested in
what they are working on. Let me know if you don't know how to. And if
there is something else that you want to do that isn't on the list, just
propose it, or get together with others of a like mind and just do it, or
drop me a note about it.

Several members of the TeamWork team have agreed be available to assist as
facilitators where needed and wanted to help other teams become productive.

One current suggestion is for each team to develop some sort of mission
statement clarifying what it is working on accomplishing. It can also be
very useful for somebody in each team to keep track of the unfolding story
of what the team is doing and condense it into a progress report once in a
while.

I would like to start putting together a list of services or resources that
members offer to other members. In the first place I'd like to concentrate
on services that are either free or available for time-money credits.
Please send me messages on what I can put on the list.

A Web area for NCN is currently found at:

http://www.protree.com/worldtrans/newcivnet.html

When this is (soon) switched over to newciv.org we will be able to let
those of you who want to maintain Web areas by yourself for different team
activities be able to do so.
