There are various lists that are part of NCN where interaction can take
place and where projects can develop.
It might be a little confusing to get an overview of, and possibly we have
too many lists. A number of them have been very active at times, but are
dormant at this point.
If any of you have access to server resources where threaded discussion
forums could be run, I'd be very interested. It would be nice with a place
where one could quickly get an overview of which discussions are ongoing,
and one could see the previous messages, rather than having to be on a
mailing list. Technically speaking, it would probably require a NT server
that is fairly available and that would be able to run software like
O'Reilly's WebBoard (http://webboard.ora.com/). If you don't know what I'm
talking about, just ignore this paragraph.
You are receiving this on the main NCN mailing list ncnmain-l@newciv.org.
It is intended to have relatively low traffic, and it is a moderated list,
meaning that messages sent to it go to me first as the moderator. I might
pass it on, or I might put it on one of the other lists, if that seems more
appropriate.
This list is for announcements of new activities/projects, progress reports
of ongoing projects, for administrative stuff and a few inspirational items
here and there. It is not for discussion or for critique of other people's
messages.
For general discussion there is the NCN Discussion List,
ncndiscuss-l@newciv.org. If you want to discuss or comment on anything
posted on the main list, or you want to discuss any other general new
civilization subjects, that is the place to be, and it is an open forum
without moderation. It is sometimes relatively quiet, sometimes very busy.
ncnethics-l@newciv.org is for discussion of ethics, social laws, and legal
systems.
ncnspirit-l@newciv.org is for discussion of spirituality in a new civilization.
energy@wice.xs4all.nl is for discussion of alternative energy schemes.
money@wice.xs4all.nl is for discussion of alternative money systems.
These four have been quiet for a while, but you can bring them to life
simply by joining any of them and saying something interesting.
The creativity list at creativity@wice.xs4all.nl has many members and had
intense traffic earlier, but has been quiet for a while too.
The list for the World Knowledge Network is at wknet-l@newciv.org. It has
been quiet lately, but is sometimes very active.
The newciv.org server has quite a few lists, not all of which are directly
for NCN purposes.
The Celestine Prophecy list at celestine-l@newciv.org is busy with
discussion on an ongoing basis and has many members.
The African Spirituality list at afrospirit-l@newciv.org is also fairly active.
The Whole Systems list at wholesys-l@netcom.com was in some ways a
precursor to NCN. It has many members and is sometimes very busy.
The list for New Civilization Model One and Two, an Encino non-profit
organization has a list at ncpost@wice.xs4all.nl and has sparse but
consistent traffic.
There are more lists, but this is probably confusing enough for now.
----------------------------------
To subscribe to any of the lists that end in @newciv.org you send a message to:
with a message looking like this:
subscribe xxxxxx-l
where xxxxxx-l is the list name. Notice that the last letter is an L and
not a One.
----------------------------------
For the lists ending in @wice.xs4all.nl you write to
with a message like:
subscribe xxxxxxx
where xxxxxxx is the list name. Like 'subscribe money'.
----------------------------------
For the Whole Systems list at netcom.com you write to:
with the message:
subscribe wholesys-l
----------------------------------
The point in having different lists is basically to have forums available
for whatever you might need them for. We are not all interested in the
exact same things, and we might have varying amounts of time and energy
available to delve into them in depth.
You don't HAVE to use any of these in particular. NCN is not primarily
about discussion. But it IS about communication and networking and
cooperation where it is mutually desirable.
If you have different needs for a forum on a specific subject or for a
specific project, just let Joachim <jhs@newciv.org> or me know, and we'll
find the best way of assisting it.
There are several private mailing lists used for particular projects that
you might hear results from once in a while, but that aren't necessarily
open for new members at this point.
Don't WAIT for something to happen. If there is something you want to do,
or something you want to talk about, put it out there. There is no
pre-written agenda or protocol to violate, other than to try to be kind and
tolerant of divergent viewpoints. If you don't know where to put it, send
it to me and I'll pass it on in a suitable forum.
