Invitation to Participate in the INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE ("Hear the
Children" Day): September 17, 1996
Pathways To Peace is delighted to invite you to join with the United
Nations and citizens of the world in a Peace Messenger Initiative to the
Year 2000: THE "WE THE PEOPLES" INITIATIVE. The "WE THE PEOPLES" INITIATIVE
is a co-operative movement to unite the strengths of existing organizations
and projects toward making Peace a practical reality in the 21st Century.
One of the purposes of this Initiative is to live a true Day of Peace every
third Tuesday of September, which highlights humanity's progress to peace
in all its diverse expressions in a local/global event. The heart of this
Day is:
.... One Minute of Silence for Peace.... standing in silent solidarity with
all of the delegates at the opening of the United Nations General Assembly
.... on Tuesday, September 17, 1996.....
at 10:00 a.m. New York time (or 3 p.m. Greenwich MT) and/or at NOON
wherever you are to link with others around the planet in this unitive
action of peace and cooperation.
The third Tuesday of every September is the annual, universally observed
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE as proclaimed in a unanimous resolution in 1981
by all members of the United Nations. As the General Assembly convenes in
New York on that Day, it observes a traditional minute of silence to begin
the year's work. Through our participation in that Moment of Peace we
support the important work of the U.N. and spread this reverberation of
Peace around the planet.
Please spread the word and join us on September 17 and at noon every day in
a minute of silence for peace. Also, please send information about your
activity for this Day, so that we can link you with others' participating
in this local/global Project.
