A PROPOSITION
The Encyclopedia of World Problems and Human Potential is published by the
Union of International Associations (UIA). Their Internet website address
is http://www.uia.org.
The fourth edition of this work deals with
-12,000 world problems
-29,000 strategies and action plans
-1,400 development concepts
-3,000 positive and negative values
-etc.
Some 158,000 cross-references are also given. In addition, many texts or
sections discuss important meta-questions about problems and about ways to
tackle them. The Encyclopedia takes no stance and undertakes no practical
action, other than the necessary bias and actions that are assumed de
facto in the process of documenting the world problematique. Until now,
collaboration for this work took place within and around a small editorial
team in Brussels that exchanges documents with more than 20,000
international organizations.
I submit to you that this Encyclopedia represents the basic panel
instrument that we need to navigate with Spaceship Earth more safely, to
monitor what is going well or wrong, to detect or indicate what can be
done, to chart the complex array of problems and solutions that range from
the personal to the universal levels.
I propose that promoting the production and the use of this document
becomes the central task of a collaborative movement between us all who
hope for a decisive progress in the control of world problems. If you are
interested, let us get in touch and work together.
The present initiative is my responsibility, but it has been backed up
recently (May 1997) by an executive officer of the Union of International
Associations, Mr. Christian De Laet. Eventually, of course, a public
forum could be set up by us and for us on the website of the UIA.
I am Robert Daoust. My e-mail address is humane@cam.org.
