The workgroup for the New Civilization Foundation has been busy at work
developing and fine-tuning a mission statement, as well as other elements
of the foundation. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody
who is participating for their dedicated work.

This is how the mission statement has come out:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

                  NEW CIVILIZATION FOUNDATION
                       MISSION STATEMENT

PURPOSE:

The New Civilization Foundation (NCF) exists to advance the quality of
Life in all its manifestations wherever the influence of human beings may
extend. Therefore, we encourage, sponsor, and support projects that show
outstanding potential to serve that Life. While activities may focus
locally or on much grander scale, the Foundation's clear and conscious aim
is to serve the common good.

To achieve this purpose, NCF strives to embrace, embody, and engender
these values:

 * Reverence for all life and celebration of its continuously unfolding
    miracle.
 * Commitment to sustainable ecology and accessibility of basic
    resources.
 * Recognition of the inherent unity and interdependence of all people.
 * Commitment to sustainable justice.
 * Appreciation of our wonderful human and natural diversity.
 * Respect for the free will of all sentient beings.
 * Opportunity for full development and positive expression of all human
    potential.
 * Respectful, effective communication and a cooperative spirit in all
    interaction.
 * Openness to new ideas and fresh approaches, while building on the
    past.

We believe such values, exemplified in productive action, expand our
possibilities and offer our best hope for a continuously improving New
Civilization.

With full knowledge that only good means create good ends, NCF's mission
is to promote peace, prosperity, and well-being for Humanity and All Life
affected by it, using whatever peaceful, voluntary, and compassionate
means present themselves for that purpose.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

One of the things that is also in the works is an Advisory Board for the
foundation. If any of you who have not had time to participate in the
discussions recently are interested in being part of such a board, send me
a note.

There will be some real work to be done, but initially the point is in part
to show that there is a group of accomplished and integruous individuals
who support what the foundation is about. You don't have to be famous to be
on that list, but there is unfortunately still an "old civ" aspect, that an
Advisory Board looks better if the members are leaders of organizations,
have written books, have flashy titles, or have something else going for
them that makes it seem more significant that they would want to support
such a foundation.

It created quite a stir in the foundation discussion group when I asked for
that, as it might seem a bit contradictory that we would pay any kind of
attention to people's status and titles. So, let me stress here as well
that the intention is not in any way to leave people out of the foundation
work who don't have Ph.D.s or who aren't famous. The foundation would
consist of teams of people with integrity who have something to contribute,
no matter what their resume might look like.
