Dear fellow members of NCN,
The thing that triggered me about the NCN initially, was that it
represented something I longed for, but had not yet found in the
environment. I had found many shortcomings to life, liberty and what
"society" calls appropriate behavior. NCN represented the alternative
potential. It beckoned from the horizon of possibilities and drew me in.
I jumped on board NCN in late 95. there was roughly 300 members then. It
was post embryonic and seemed to me that it was ready birth at any
moment. Indeed the website was packed with useful good info. A lot of
really good projects were already under way. There were links to
everywhere and everything. And of course it was the collecting point of
many cool people.
Three years later we are still waiting for that baby to be born. Perhaps
It's waiting for us to decide what we want to create. It's the classic
paradox. On one hand we have our ideals and our optimism on the right
way to do it. On the other hand we have reality and the lessons itās
constantly delivering. The two neutralize each other with the end
result is a lot of good wsidom but not much manifested progress.
The time has come to move out of the paradox and unify the diversity
while allowing for the expression of the individual. To take action
based on the collective will of the NCN that leads us to our
collectivelly determined destination.
Therefore, I humbly make the following suggestions, for your (NCN)
consideration and discussion.
I suggest that the NCN becomes what the name implies. A NEW
CIVILIZATION. A NEW NATION. A Nation not of borders but to the benefit
of all people. That we move out of the phase of talking about it and
begin the phase of walking the talk.
I suggest that (we) become responsible to the NCN and each other.That we
pay to play. That we pay to become registered members of NCN as well as
an annual donation to the NCN to remain registered. That Registered
Members vote on the development and growth of the NCN. This would allow
us to develop and regulate an infrastructure.
I suggest that NCN have a working budget that is published and openly
developed as to be fiscally responsible to the members of NCN. (ie
profit making)
Example:
Opening Membership Drive : 3000+ members at a one time Entrance fee of
$25 and we have a $75,000 NCN bank to begin with. This amount would
continue to grow with new members to NCN.
Annual Renewal
3000+ plus members at $20 annually and we have $60,000 annual
budget.Annual budget would rise or fall with the level of membership
I suggest that NCN elect officials, who are compensated for their time.
These elected officials would run the NCN to reflect the will of the
people. NCN members would vote on items and agendas and budgets brought
forward by the elected ones.
I suggest the NCN draw up a New Constitution with a Bill of Rights &
Responsibilities. That the members step forward and participate in
defining what NCN is and what NCN is going to do.
I suggest the first thing we should do is have a membership wide vote to
determine if the NCN should be a self determining organization, run by
elected officals, that has a budget, charges a membership fee and does
business in the interest of the NCN citizens.
Quite simply lets run the NCN like a democracy. But this time, let's do
it right. : )
