Jonas October 24, 2005 You know it would seem that the fact that bird flu seems to have emerged and orginated in Asian countries may be no "accident" or mutation but a natural "mechanism" of global wholism kicking in to curb or mitigate "speciial" desity and concentration. China does have 3 billion or so people concentrated in a relatively small area. Yes ..... I wonder if the way it works is like a "govenor" in a mechanical system. A governor is a device that "regulates" a system to stop it from going past a certain upper or lower? threshold that would perhaps destroy the whole machine or system. Once that threshold is reached something is introduced that either slows down the increasing speed if headed above or speeds up the decreasing speed if headed below. Thus it is "protected" or "governed" for both extremes of existance or a continuum. I know the going above is generally called the governor. The going below might be called something else. Actually I've heard that "war" is a somewhat "natural" aspect of the human makeup and that the cold war of the 20th century might have been a quasi-natural human equivalent of this "governor effect" the only problem being that if the cold war had come to fruitation, the effects would have been quite long lasting ie on the order of 10s of thousands of years (due to the radioactive life of the missles). This is said as certain elements would have probably survived the nuclear catastrophy like some cockroaches and plants and perhaps some animals but it would have started a whole new evolutionary line that might have resulted in an insect like planet or something. Fortuneately humanity apparently survived by what the major analysists have suggested may simply have been "blind luck" and hence a hot war was avoided. This bird flu then may be a more humane or natural hot war but in a natural sense. On the other end of the scale when a species is introduced to an area where it has no "natural" predators then nothing stops it from reproduction and its increase in popluation exceeds the of its norm ie the introduction of rabbits into Australia caused rabbits to become a major nuisance there. As well, if say a natural population goes to low it either becomes extinct or a basic change occurs that allows it to increase its fertility and hence population size ie a species suddenly devoloping the ability to have twins or mulitiple offspring. Another such aspect that led apparently to an increase of the human population was the rise of the "older" adult. Up until a certain time it was rare for people to live past say 40 or 45 years but then though it is not clear exactly why but through health improvements and writting and reading and language humans suddenly did a kind of quatum leap and began living a lot longer which significantly aided the younger humans who benifited greatly from the older humans knowledge wisdom and experience.
