Before The Net

Well it just struck me in a way, how much the internet has sort of effected my life. It is almost difficult to imagine the world without it now. That led me to reflect, Now where was I before the "net" came along.
I myself was pursuing a career as a TV Camera man, and handy man, as well as involved in the Music and Art biz.

The internet sort of shot down the music art aspect in terms of making money as now it allowed easy free access to music art and images so the market was more or less toast for that. I guess I sort've had to let that go as you couldn't much make a living at it doin it for free.
But sort of just curious too where were you or the world was at before the net.

I suppose thats probably around 1995 to 1998 before the net went global.

I just realized that there are children born after the net who have
never known a world without it...
that would be strange...
I'm not sure what effect that would have but some British studies
indicate young children are two or three years behind their
grade levels in problem solving and critical thinking
I'm not so sure thats the fault of the net or just the growing fuzzy
line between the virtual and the real...
kids are growing up though in a whole different reality it would
seem. I wonder what it would be like or what us olders could compare
it too?
Life before "electricity"?

hmmmm????

Another 'absorbing' pastime. Watching tv together is about non-communication. There we sit like zombies staring together at the lighted box.

Hey, how about life before remote controls? That's an easy one for most of us to remember. The remote control was the kid sitting closest to the box.

What was it like? People read more, talked more, probably knew alot less about things in the world that were far away and didn't effect them anyway.

The world is ever-changing and when these children of the corn-puter grow up, they too will be astonished by something totally different that will eclipse their version of the world.

We used to hear the old-timers talk about the 'good old days'.. I remember gas at 25 cents a gallon, gas wars that lowered the price instead of raised it, lol! And penny candy costing only a penny. And the 5 & dime charging only 5 cents, 10 cents. Now I'm the one talking about the good old days.

BTW, there are still many places in the world you can go to experience life without electricity. Try some of our countries 'reservations', for instance. Oh, that's right, you're in Canada. One time while vacationing in B.C. I heard a radio broadcast which told of some people living up in the Whitehorse area who only had ham radios and that was how their children got schooled, via short-wave. Perhaps they are the lucky ones.

Some of my grandchildren, one is already 10, live without computers in their homes and seem to get by just fine without one.
