The "KINGDOMSPHERE"

Well I suppose many of us have heard of the "biosphere" and many of us have heard as well of the "kingdoms" of life, but have you thus heard of the "KINGDOMSPHERE". For is it not "logical" that the biosphere rests not on the hydrosphere or geosphere but upon the kingdomsphere. Ah... yes perhaps.

Well when I was growing up there were pretty much only three Kingdoms.
Plant, mineral and animal but now apparently there are five and I don't think they include plants or minerals well maybe plants. The minerals aspect has been subjucated to the 200 or so "elements".

Well anyway the point being that under the said biosphere rests this apparent
"kingdomsphere" or so but they don't really call it that but I would argue that if there is a said biosphere then hence it is "derived" from said kingdoms and hence the kingdomsphere which itself rests upon the elements and hyrdo and geo spheres.

5. Atmosphere
4. Biosphere
3. Kingdomsphere
2. Hydrosphere
1. Geosphere

Well if it's any consulation, it not that we "forgot", but simply that we failed to see it for what it was and is, which apparently is the foundation of life on Earth,
as we know at present.

Sorry false alarm
I in my neglect of breakfast produced the above folly.
It is just a question of "semantics" apparently
and the "kingdomsphere" is essentially identical
to the biosphere except that the kingdomsphere is just
a more precise way and understanding of the biosphere.
Thus the kingdomsphere is just what essentially the biosphere
consists of but ultimately they are and mean the same.

This 5 kingdom system is the one that I started with as a student back in the dark ages (1968 when I first went to college). Later when I started teaching we switched to the three kingdom system. The archaea (primitive bacteria), prokaryota (advanced bacteria) and Eukaryota (all other living things).
As the molecular biologists do more and more DNA studies they have been trying to split the living world into 8 kingdoms: 2 bacteria, 3 protozoan, 1 fungus, 1 plant and 1 animal.

The worst biologists in the world to be around are taxonomists. They all fall into one of two categories: "lumpers" (those that want everything in a few groups) and "splitters" (those that want a million different groups). Fist fights have actually broken out at taxonomy meetings over how to arrange the groupings. As my friend from New Jersey says, "Go Figure!"

Winter is coming on so don't forget to button up. I hear it gets pretty cold up that way. Hope we can get up there to see the place soon.
