| Xanadu 2012: Open Question to Humanity |
Category: Articles 20 comments 6 Nov 2006 @ 14:20 by scotty : Who says it doesn't care ?I think it simply doesn't believe that the dangers are real - or if they are real then it simply will happen to somebody else - like road accidents ! Know what I mean ? Maybe people are too busy pointing fingers and being afraid instead of asking the right questions like - what can I personally do about things ! We can all do something to change what's happening in the world ! ALL OF US - nobody is too small nobody is really alone - to think otherwise is to buy into the lie that keeps people enslaved and impotent ! 6 Nov 2006 @ 14:25 by swanny : Yes Yes some do care but... I can appreciate that "some" of humanity are risktakers and like to live "dangerously" but to recklessly imperil innocent and not so innocent species in a lust for adventure is somewhat "overcriminal" in my mind. Much of humanity thus seems to be the most unconscious of hypocrites in the solar system 6 Nov 2006 @ 14:30 by scotty : hmmm even if I agree with you - what difference does THAT make !! calling people unconscious or hypocrites won't put the fish back in the ocean nor oxygen in the air - it's only words - words that point the finger to 'others' - a waste of energy I'm afraid (IMHO that is) Why not start something local - arranging a recycling programme - asking people to come to the town hall and give talks - cut down on your use of electricity - be more discerning in what goods you buy .... all that wrapping on products just creates waste ! There are THOUSANDS of things that one person can do - and that will influence other people around them - and eventually people will waken up and take action too ! Hey one single snow flake slipping down a hill can start an avalanche !! 6 Nov 2006 @ 14:32 by swanny : well well I'm doing something by asking the question.. you're avoiding the question somewhat... Have you ever asked yourself Am I a danger to myself or humanity or is what I'm "doing" or do a danger to myself or to humanity? 6 Nov 2006 @ 14:36 by scotty : avoiding the question !! um I didn't think I was ! but to answer what you said "Have you ever asked yourself Am I a danger to myself or humanity? " .. my answer is I have asked the question and the answer is No I am not a danger to myself nor to humanity - and I found that it wasn't in fact the question that needs to be asked ! 6 Nov 2006 @ 14:39 by swanny : good good thats a good place to start but are you sure? My observation is that most people don't seem to care thats all and I'm not sure why they don't care. I suspect its because caring is to incapacitating. If we really and effectively cared we couldn't and wouldn't live the way we do. 6 Nov 2006 @ 14:48 by swanny : Choice The problem is that we don't really have much choice or we're quilty by association. We have to buy this stuff and work for the people that make the stuff even though its killin us and the planet. Caring isn't easy and it isn't very lucrative either. I heard it put nicely the other day. So times you don't do what's right but what's profitable that seems to sum it up nicely. It is a dilemma though and I understand that. we can't just walk away and live in the bush or we can but that I don't think is the answer either. Somehow there must be a middle way to this profound problem or puzzle. It lies perhaps partly in politics and will and law but we have to put the heart back into those though. We begin by asking people to start caring again even though it won't make them richer and might make them poorer but unless we care then not much will change. So that is why the question is important. Why doesn't humanity care when it knows it should. Or maybe a better question. How can humanity start to care more for itself and the planet again and in so doing be less of a danger to itself and the planet? 6 Nov 2006 @ 14:53 by scotty : hmmm my observation is - people DO care ! But they've been tricked into thinking that what happens around them hasn't anything to do with them directly ! It's my belief that every person on the planet wants to be happy - but they live in fear that they can't be happy without "........" (fill in your own choice of word) All prosperity begins in the mind ! The world one sees when one is giving love is not the same world one sees when one is demanding it! It isn't not caring that's incapacitating - it's FEAR ! One of my favorite sayings is "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure." ~ Marianne Williamson 6 Nov 2006 @ 14:57 by scotty : Choice ! of course we have choice - happiness and love are just a choice away!!! Tell me something Al ... What would you attempt if you knew you could not fail? Here's another wee quote that you might find inspiring "If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself. If you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself. Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own transformation." ~ Lao Tzu 6 Nov 2006 @ 15:01 by scotty : as chance would have it I already posted something in my log this morning that (to my mind) answers your post about 'choice' so I'll copy it here ... " the challenge and not lamenting over what was. I can't help but feel that we allow ourselves to become distracted from the important things in life - like listening to our hearts .... a bit like the man who had been wounded by a poisoned arrow. His friends and relatives send for a surgeon but when the surgeon arrives, the wounded man says: 'I will not let the surgeon pull out this arrow until I know whether the man who wounded me was a noble or a brahmin (priest), or a merchant or a worker...tall, short, or middle height...brown or golden-skinned...whether he lives in such a village or town or city...whether the bow that wounded me was a long bow or a cross bow...' and so on. The fact is before all the wounded man's questions would have been answered he would have died !! Speculating on such questions is a distraction from what is essential - it doesn't lead 'to peace ... it doesn't lead us to seeing other peoples essence ... it doesn't lead us anywhere except into the 'game' that todays 'powers that be' wish to emprison us with ! " 6 Nov 2006 @ 15:13 by swanny : Reality Well we shouldn't replace one illusion with another. You say youre not a danger to the planet yet you probably drive a gas car, use coal generated electricity, consume processed goods, so I say you are an unconscious hypocrite but you start by accepting your hypocrisy as I have accepted mine. Then when we are disillusioned and seeing more clearly we stand a better chance to make some real, effective and constructive change. Oh I was told I could do something and wouldn't fail and then I did it and failed. 6 Nov 2006 @ 15:27 by scotty : hmmm illusions v reality ! Don't drive actually - use public transport most of the time .. we do have a car which we use to the minimum ... try to offset the pollution this causes by planting lots of trees and bushes. I live in the tropics and don't need to consume fossil fuels for heating - use wood quite often for the bar-b-q .... use of electricity is kept to the minimum - we use 'long-life' lighting which uses less electricity... never leave lights on in an empty room - wash our dirty dishes by hand and leave them to air dry - switch off anything that we're not using - use the broom instead of the hoover - the list can go on and on but I think you get the picture LOL ! Most of our fresh foods comes from either our garden and trees or from our neighbours ... when we do buy commercial goods we try to buy only the things we really need and pay a lot of attention to packaging etc and go for 'recyclable' ! We're aware that through 'selective' use of our spending power we can change the way businesses put their stuff onto the market ! I'm not saying that I don't contribute to the ecological problem - I am saying that I take steps to keep it to a minimum and compensate for it as best I can.... I know that some people in my circle of friends and in the neighbourhood are seeing this example and they in turn are becoming more aware and slowly but surely changing their comportement ! So - my reply to you is my friend - I'm not an unconscious hypocrite :) And now that we've covered that - what about YOU ?? You say you've accepted your hypocricy !!! Is that the best you can offer this planet that you say you love so much ! 6 Nov 2006 @ 15:37 by swanny : Balance My point is that it doesn't much matter what we do or will do because we, humanity are a dangerous thing. It thus then is a question and challenge of how to be less so in order to strike a better balance. 6 Nov 2006 @ 15:41 by scotty : OK !! believe that you are dangerous and no doubt that's what you'll end up being ! believe that it doesn't much mater what we do or don't do - and it won't ! I believe that I am part of the solution ! I believe that what I do and don't do matters ! I don't feel challenged - I feel empowered and that my life has meaning : ) I suppose it all depends on the choices we make ! 6 Nov 2006 @ 15:46 by swanny : Ok Danger power same thing... We concur then it would seem in a somewhat convulted way and by different terms and yes it does matter for humanity to be less dangerous. Therefore let us, humanity, strive to be less dangerous although some might have it otherwise. 6 Nov 2006 @ 15:48 by scotty : Danger Power the same thing !!! hmm I don't thinks so LOL ! 6 Nov 2006 @ 15:50 by swanny : Yes Yes danger in the dictionary derives from the word "power" or lord or hmmmm well I've lost or gave away that reference I see you edited your text... no need too... It stood well as it was. 6 Nov 2006 @ 16:02 by scotty : edited we were typing at the same time I think LOL Power .. Power (sociology) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "By power is meant every opportunity/possibility existing within a social relationship, which permits one to carry out one's own will, even against resistance, and regardless of the basis on which this opportunity rests." Empowered ... em·pow·er (m-pour) Pronunciation Key Audio pronunciation of "empowered" [P] tr.v. em·pow·ered, em·pow·er·ing, em·pow·ers 1. To invest with power, especially legal power or official authority. See Synonyms at authorize. 2. To equip or supply with an ability; enable: Danger ... dan·ger (dān'jər) pronunciation n. 1. Exposure or vulnerability to harm or risk. 2. A source or an instance of risk or peril. Seems to me that Danger and Power are actually polarities : ) 6 Nov 2006 @ 16:17 by scotty : on the front page it said 'Make your life an act of Love' ... now THERE'S the solution eh ! 6 Nov 2006 @ 17:17 by jobrown : I liked your description, Scotty, about the different ways you consciously make the best of the situation, that certainly wouldn't be as good as it is UNLESS you actually did all these conscious steps to minimize the destructive possibilities in these situations. I also feel good about having working these ways as you , myself for several years -and ever trying to find even more avenues for "doing things more Nature/Life-friendly. Yes, this too is "contageos"; constructive ways of living, just like destructive ways are! and Now, living here in Flathead Valley, MT, life /people overall are much more conscious about Nature and working on being less destructive. (Of course; there's always the exceptions!) But just to give you guys an example how a community in large can make a difference , I will tell you that all stores except the bigger corporate stores, have civilians to bring the plastic and paper bags that they got when buying groceries to these small stores; our Health food stores and Thrift shops and small Eateries/Coffee shops alike, and they re-use them. So when you go to your Local Health Food store, for instance, you will take your Purchased Items home in a g.bag that has been used already and now being re-used ! Cool, eh?! The Coffee Traders; a small (Local Franchise) coffee house, that only uses Organic Fair Trade Coffee beans sell the burlap bags ( for 75 cents / bag)where the unroasted beans arrived in and they use all that revenue for Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity in turn, sells all recovered Material from (both their own and other people's) construction sites all kinds of left-over building material, old doors , windows, hardware, etc and sells them for very affordable price to people. The re-use/re-cycle - wheeler / dealer spirit is live and well! Every week comes out this little Paper called Mountain Trader, ( http://www.mountaintrader.biz/ ) where people advertise their Items and Services. Lots of "New Thinking" here -as I call it. ALMOST nothing is let go to waste here! I so wish every (smallish) community would have this! I am doing whatever I can to spread this Idea. : ) Thanks Swanny, for the article!/A-d Other entries in Articles 23 Aug 2022 @ 09:55: Gravity battery ref 23 Aug 2022 @ 09:53: Gravity battery ???. 2 May 2022 @ 06:45: How to Get Quality Dofollow Backlinks 23 Nov 2021 @ 18:26: What is Linkbuilding 25 Jun 2021 @ 15:37: Longitude at sea? 24 Aug 2020 @ 12:42: Climate and ocean 24 Aug 2020 @ 12:37: Climate update Aug 2020 15 Mar 2020 @ 19:11: Hang in.. 29 Jul 2019 @ 16:12: Onward 28 Feb 2019 @ 14:41: Solar Neighborhood pic
