Xanadu 2012: The Education System

Ah how the circle repeats itself.
I recall my school system. In many ways I see how our modern society is just reflecting
the roles and records we learned there. How we were taught and skilled in the ways of consumerism and proper society. A new civ would thus have a new education system but when I look at the system of the day, I see how we are now raising a society of gangsters, criminals and soldiers in the vistas of the video games and such.
Sad that something so important is left to the vices of commercial enterprise and well what is the gaming mentality? It isn't really living but thus deposits its lessons and wastes upon the society and civilization we build. Its not that bad no, but it could be better. My high schools motto was nil sid optimun "nothing but the best". Todays mantra would seem to be Kay sa ra sa ra. Well anyway. I don't know much about education theory but I figure if you want to change humanity and civilization then you do it through education and not prisons or through politics, war or consumption.
So perhaps then let us reflect on those high school dazes of old and see where we were, where we are and what could have been and could be different. Were you really in control of your choices or were you just following the herd and peers and the system of the day. Are you satisfied where you ended up thus or was or is there more to life than the Pepsi Generation and is that really what you want for your kids and grand kids?

Anyway just some musings from a muse from snowy Alberta.

One thing that does strike me odd is how do you educate at a time of rapid change?
If things are changing how does education fit in? How can you educate about that which is changing or does not yet exist or no longer exists? It seems in my time the world was beset with change yet my education seemed oblivious to the change occurring around it yet that strikes at the heart of a good education. Education must if to be useful have a means to address a changing world. Education should thus prepare those to accommadate change or incorporate it somehow.
How though? How can change and education coexist? that seems oxmoronish.

hmmmm well there would seem to be certain truths or codes or laws that do not perhaps change but are not directly taught either. They are learned as part of the social process of education. If you fight with billy at recess you get hauled into the principles office. Now that is not on the curriculum but a big lesson none the less. It would seem that the main part of the education system duty is thus that which is "not" on the curriculum and as such then how is that drafted or crafted but by sort of second hand learning. Morality thus is taught in schools but it is not part of the curriuculum persae but of the agenda of who? It seems left up to day to day living and life itself. I guess is that the best way to learn just to live and be yourself and by being yourself get corrected into proper shape and form damn the curriumum although confusing and seemingly inconsequential.????
