If the wealthy have no general obligation to help the poor, then the poor certainly have no general obligation to help the wealthy.

A moment of silence and prayer for this brave and courageous and young contestant who perhaps died too soon battling for what he loved to do. Valhalla opens its doors to you Nodar, With the permission of your Spirit let the Games go on.

13 Feb 2010 @ 17:38 by swanny @70.65.11.89 : luge track
Well it seems this track is now a killer, having had an accident probability of 3/100 it now as a death rate of well I'm not certain how many times it has been run but if about 2000 or so then it has now an established probability of 1/2000 of being killed that's perhaps being on the hard side as they have made some changes to the track to make it safer and attributed the death to human error. Whether one can draw a conclusion or linkage between the accident rate and a death rate is to early perhaps to tell but in an event or track where a split second comes into play between life or death it is obviously not a sport for the weak kneed or slight of mind. Whether they allow the mens start to psych people out is questionable but perhaps it is to early to get back on the horse and some healing is necessary. It is a decision that is easy for others to make in the comfort of there arm chairs and calculators and I would myself put to the contestants as it is their lives and character they are testing and proving.

I saw the footage, it's my contention that maybe those girders should have been wraped in something soft, like we here in the USA have learned that if you have a steel pole holding up a goal post or basketball hoop, someone will run into it and get hurt sooner or later. Kind of reminded me of princess Dianna's demise.

13 Feb 2010 @ 19:18 by swanny @70.65.11.89 : Wrapping
Yea you would think that but in the interview of the luge panel they said at that speed even if they were wrapped you probably wouldn't survive and that their maintain objective is to keep even the accident potentials confined to keeping contestants inside the track, like I said not a sport for the timid.

15 Feb 2010 @ 11:46 by swanny @70.65.11.89 : gold
It is not so much the winning where in lies the gold and glory but the excellence and spirit of having done and given ones best to the highest ideals and standards of the day.

Well done CANADA
