It creates an overall warming vicious cycle, as it is said most of the coal generated electricity used in the USA is used for cooling. Not sure of the numbers but might be for each degree of attempted cooling of 1 sq mile, 1.5 degrees increase in temp. is produced over 2 sq. miles. Although don't quote me on that but physics wise it seems thermodynamically easier to heat than to cool at the planetary level. Better insulated and air tight buildings or folks just moving to cooler places would be a offset. As well heat and CO2 is produced and rain and ocean temp is increased trying to cool the engine of the Denmark sized automobile (size of the collective car the worlds 700 million cars and trucks would make if made into one vehicle). This seems to have resulted in an average global warming over the last 100 years of say 0.5 degrees and increasing exponentially every 25 years. Projected temp for 2100 is between 2 to 4 degree increase. or about 18* Celsius globally.. with temperature not cooling till then if all methods of heat and CO2 reduction were employed today. It's known that water vapor and water in general holds far more heat than Co2.
