I suppose, human society well knows its current path of excessive consumption and over-activity is a path to self destruction, but like any addict doesn't know or care to change, even upon seeing fellow addicts dead in the ditch. Thus in the exercise of free will, humans feel it is within their right to chose the path of death and extinction and thus then is called progress and civility. Still us all being ever the shocked when this prize we seek strikes to close to home ie: 2011 japan tsunami,2005 Katrina and 2012 Sandy storms and 2004 Indonesia quakes,
We can extrapolate though thus that unchecked humanization of the Earth though is not compatible and in conflict with many of the ages old natural forces and systems of the planet and has as the outcome of placing both in jeopardy unless some middle way, ground and measures can be found and soon.
Men thus must not only gauge our success by measure of ourselves but in keeping as well with the well-being and measure of our host and provider, Nature.
The metrics though of measure for the human world are the economy but such alone is insufficient to the task before us, as what are the metrics and measures for the healthy natural worlds success but its continued health, existence and future.
Yet humans society seemingly profits at the expense and detriment of the natural one eroding ultimately human well being in the long term process and thus properly considered , true benefit and measure of such ie; the Gaia metrics, would include both human and natural well being and health metrics and scales as one largely codependent or interdependent whole.
For as goes the planet so goes humanity but it is insufficient though to simply articulate our positions or concerns without providing as well the or a means or device for its mitigation and implementation and we thus cannot only limit the impacts and measures of our activities, devices and tech to singularities and actions in the luxury of an endless open system but in keeping with our fixed planetary reality must consider and multiply our such by a factor of 7 billion (total humans) to get the true picture of our and suchs potential impact. Thus then to truly benefit and blossom in this now, we must do our due diligence to ourselves and our Earth.
