Half Remembered


In that secret place the water flows to the valley,
We gaze from the high mountain.
The breeze touches my face and I feel free,
To see the green of the valley with its grass and tree.
Turning, I smile at him and I wonder who he is.
How did he find me in my quietude?
He knows the secrets and he smiles.

Taking my hand he leads me up the plateau,
And there are horses waiting.
Appaloosa and a black, fast as wind.
They snort expectantly and paw the ground.
His eyes twinkle as he hears the sound.
“Where will they take us my friend?”
The old man smiles again.

Seeing his long, white hair and his reddened skin,
I know he is a messenger of the sun, and the earth.
Grandfather, healer, shaman, elder…friend
He wears no ornament, and walks a pure, straight way.
We will go riding and fly away,
Perhaps to his secret place,
Perhaps to another time.

I see him in the dreamtime often.
He brings me gifts, and I feel his laughter.
Visions drift in hazy sequence as he leads me on.
A face half-remembered in some far place.
Somewhere out of time, or inner space.
He never speaks, there is no need.
Or perhaps, I do not hear.

it is indeed.. and I realize that it has been WAY too long since I have been able to relax and do some meditating.
