A few of the areas I am interested in doing something in are:
- Alternative Energy Sources and Distribution -
getting clear on what is available, collecting resources, producing how-to
information, researching free energy projects, proposing alternative
distribution schemes, implementing more local solutions amongst the members
here.
If there are not already some people here who've worked with installing
solar energy and stuff like that, there was somebody on wholesys-l that
I'll look for.
I'll try to get hold of Peter Meisner who is the director of GENI (Global
Energy Network International) which is doing a big effort in getting
Buckminster Fuller's plan on globally connected energy grids implemented. I
haven't been in touch with him for a while.
Anybody who's interested in this, drop me a note and we'll form an energy team.
- Alternative Money Systems -
collecting information on what schemes already exist, discussing the
prospects of doing away with money systems and using a resource-based
system instead, and ways of financing new civilization projects,
implementing experimental schemes amongst members. New Civ Encino already
has a time-based system, so that is part of the input to start with.
Roger Langrick is a resource on this and is part of this network, but will
be unavailable for a while, so I am not sure if he is even getting this.
Let me know if you want to be part of this.
- New Civ Networking -
If a few of you are interested in the practicalities of how we get this
network to work, beyond the specific interest areas, that is needed. How do
we create the maximum synergy from such a group, and the minimum clashes of
viewpoints. What do we do if it gets really big. How do we create effective
interaction between people who have e-mail and those who don't. How do we
make the network fault-tolerant, having multiple paths of communication if
one of them should fail. Alternate commununication methods, radio,
video-conferencing, fido-net, carrier pigeons, telepathy, or whatever.
Joachim, I'll volunteer you for this one, unless you protest. Anybody else?
Otherwise, education, health, legal systems, food production, and art would
be other obvious areas. Some are already addressed by new civ encino
divisions, so one can either join those or make new ones, depending on what
you are interested in.
