New Civ Foundation responses

Thank you for all the responses on my message on the New Civilization
Foundation.

Well, honestly, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the amount of response, although I
did expect it to be a stimulating issue. I will answer as many as I can
individually.

I plan on setting up some on-line facilities for pursuing this further.
That is, a web page, a mailing list and a chat room for discussion. I'll
let you know when it is ready.

Just a few intermediary comments.

Some people expressed concern about how a lot of money isn't necessarily
the solution to everything, and some people raised questions about whether
this was some kind of scam.

Let me stress that I don't have much invested in it either way. If it
happens it happens, and I think we could do very useful things with it. The
story is pretty wild, I can't double-check much of it at this point, and
none of the funds are available yet. However, regardless of whether this
particular arrangement comes through or not, I find it very stimulating to
think big and work on all the issues that would be involved in something of
that magnitude.

Let me also stress that, personally, I don't care a whole lot about money.
What I would like would be to transcend the need for money altogether. I'm
much more interested in establishing grass-roots operations that don't need
inflow of money, but that will be viable in and of themselves. Just handing
out grants to non-profit organizations, who become dependent on continued
grants or donations, and who will spend most of it on adminstration and
promotion, is not something I see being overly helpful in changing the
world.

But yet, I can very well imagine that large amounts of money could be used
to bridge the gap between the old civilization and the new. Particularly if
the main focus is to buy sustainability and freely accessible
infrastructures.

The new civilization is happening regardless, but we can always use a bit
more leverage to speed things up, of course.
