                          NCN Donations

A couple of more words for those of you would like to send in donations
supporting the NCN facilities. No, I don't have a credit card setup yet.
Hope to have that available in the not too distant future. In the meantime
it is a little cumbersome to contribute something if you're outside the
U.S. That is, U.S. banks are a little backwards and will only accept checks
drawn on U.S. banks. Or, send cash wrapped in silver foil. And, no, there
isn't any separate legal entity set up yet, so you'll have to make checks
out to me and trust that they end up in the right place. And again, the

As part of the NCN TeamNet idea, I am also personally thinking more in
terms of what teams I'm part of or who I might want to form a team with.
One new friend I just ran into is Habib Rose, who hosts an online community
called "The Garden". We plan on collaborating on connecting up or
facilitating the creation of groups in different areas. Below is a message
from Habib.

Subject: Re: NCN list issues and organization

Hello, new friends.

While I am apparently a "Newcivic" I have working towards similar goals
for a long time. That is true for a whole lot of people, both on and off
the Net.

Among other things, I host an Internet facilitated community called The
Garden which has a vision that is very compatible with NCN. I met with
Flemming last weekend, and we are embarking on a strategic relationship to
assist NCN in incorporating the involvement of its members and affiliated
organizations in an effective and sustainable way.

Soooooooooo, my first very strong recommendation to NCN can be summed up
in two words:

SLOW DOWN!

As AM mentioned, the New Civilization is NOT going to happen with a Bang.
It will emerge when the timing is right, as we grow up -- as individuals
and as a species, and as we develop the necessary infrastructure to do
things in new ways. I am committed to this work for "the long haul." I
recognize the tendency within myself to want to have everything in place
yesterday. But, I also, thank God, have develped the wisdom to realize
that it ain't gonna happen till it's ready. That realization removes much
of the pressure to "produce" something quickly that can drive us all
crazy. The New Civilization will hopefully be kind to US as well as to
everyone else on our planet!

Yours,

Steve Habib Rose

Jeff Gordon <jeff.gordon@wellnow.com> is looking for information about a
program called "BackMail", developed by "Alethic Software" formerly of Nova
Scotia. It is apparently a grassroots way of connecting together computers
that might not be able to be on the Internet. If you have any information
about the program or its authors, let Jeff know.
